This Is a tournament where there are ffa's on some countries and whomever wins starts with said country on a continent map and duke it out, then the winner goes on to a continent war.

Dunno man, just test it yourself, see if it plays out like you think it does (maybe have a test game first) and then adjust if it doesn't. It's hard to tell whether it accomplishes your specific goals. That's what you have to know yourself, what you want to do, and whether it works.

Problem: Pretty much any settings on map with >1000 territories is gonna be hot garbage.

Solution: don't use maps with >1000 territories.

Lots of territories typically mean lots of orders. It is fun to do diplomacy and strategy. Inputting orders is not fun. Furthermore, fronts will be tens of territories big, which makes combat stop being about strategy and start being about luck.

As a malus, in this game, it is favourable to attack as late in the turn as possible. A way how to achieve it is by spamming transfers of 1 troop. Big maps with big income encourage players to make hundreds of these orders to perform better.

Don't listen to the hate. One player's hot garbage is another player's supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.

As waffle suggests, just put together some things you'd like to try & give it a test run. Tbh, a lot of highly customized, heavily modded games depends on (a) what you're trying to achieve, and (b) who joins.

If you get a bunch of folks expecting a normal, strategic, you get "this is hot garbage" reactions. If you get a bunch of folks who expect some standard diplo play, you'll get mixed reviews. If you get a bunch of folks who know what they're getting into, you'll get honest, more accurate reviews (which could still range from hot garbage through supercali... depending on what they like and actually how well the template works as a whole + your skills/effort as a game host).

If you design a template well, it can stand on its own and just let the players figure stuff out. If you make it too complicated or you have lots other things that the mods can't do on their own, you end up with a huge "LIST OF RULES" that people need to read/interpret/understand/abide by, then have a way of dealing with different interpretations/arguments/PEs (or whatever the equivalent in your game might be)/etc.

I see there's no Diplo of Factions mod, so just all-out FFA where "teaming" is done in the shadows instead of in the open. It happens, you can't stop it.

And you should include the Essentials mod to at least help people get some info on the mods used.

καλλιστηι does raise some interesting points about large maps though, which is really the issue with WZ mechanics and delay moves. The problem is that WZ is turn based yet tries to impart "Time" inside of a single turn. It'd really be a better (imho) if all orders happened at the same time for a given turn. If you want to delay an order, make it a later turn. But that's an aside b/c WZ is WZ.

You really don't need large maps to make the game interesting. Games on large maps tend to be slow and making orders tends to take longer.
Why solve these issues when you can choose a smaller map?
