What if you could have negative artifacts, which gives the player a penalty while playing a level. But then gives a bigger reward.

I could see this being nice for WZ Idle battle, regular levels and also the challenge levels. For example an artifact that gave you +500% cost of army camps, could give you x2 reward of AP/Battle Points/ or artifact when you win.*

*Numbers are out of my hat, and obviously this is an idea rather then a complete concept. So don't focus on them (yet)
The idea is to make WZ Idle battle more close, and also to encourage a mix in strategies in regular levels rather then always using the same "meta" for all levels.


Figured that might be fun and maybe something that's unlocked available to ascended or even super ascended players.

I mean, you COULD just - at least as a first step - in battles give more BPs if you have fewer artifacts equipped. Because in battles the artifacts should not change. On regular maps you have the option to switch artifacts, hence if might be harder to ensure that you had the artifact equipped for the whole level. (Because switching in this penalty artifact right before you finish the level shouldn't give you any/much benefit(s) obviously.) And if you would block artifacts like those in cool down, what if players want to continue a level regularly because they can't handle the additional hassle?

So, for game variants that ensure a fixed artifact set (and don't take too long), this could be an interesting idea (whether it only acknowledges fewer artifacts or actual hindering artifacts). For regular levels this might require a re-design of the whole artifact system and hence might not really be feasible currently. But I could totally see this being a thing.

You're confusing this with Mega Ascension, where the efficacy of your artifacts deteriorates over time, 1% per day, and each time you Mega Ascend, you get +25% artifact health you can apply to your artifacts in increments of 1%. When an artifact gets to 0%, it downgrades to a single artifact of the next level down (Insane->Leg, etc). Downgrade takes 50% of the time as the Upgrade process took.
