1st note: Please don't send me unsolicited "join my clan" messages unless you know me/have played with me.

It has been a very long time since I was in a clan, and things were very different back then. I don't really know what "clan wars" is or the benefits.

I'm open to joining a clan, but it seems a bit overwhelming with all the different posts about things I know nothing about. I'm on Warlight fairly regularly and am open to learning about dimensions of the game for which I'm not currently involved.

I like to think I'm a good player with a good win ratio--but don't really know enough about the next level stuff. Is it hyper-competitive to the point where it stops being fun?

clan wars is a pure activity competition, it doesn't reward skill, so you will probably not find it hyper-competitive

Recommend playing a lot of games with different players from different clans. As you get to know each player, ask about their clan...any requirements or expectations and what their clan focuses on. Some are experience-minded, some are intensely focused on clan wars, or perhaps tournaments or ladders, or require certain participation levels, or try to improve skills, or similar characteristics. Each clan has a unique characteristic and it is important to find the right clan that you feel comfortable with. If you're ever unhappy with a clan you join, you can always join a new clan. Find the right clan that meets your needs and you're comfortable with.

It depends on the Clan you are in.
Some clans are known for being pressure cookers. Pressure to play Clan Wars every day, to win 60-70% of the time.

Others are chill places to learn.

And, there is everything in between.

If you are looking for a low pressure place to have fun, My clan, Excel, https://www.warzone.com/Clans/?ID=508 is a good choice.
If you are looking to just learn (not compete) the 101st is known for that.

Regards,
Dr. K

Prime is pretty chill but still successful, third place, lots of empty slots to fill.

Also we have better cupcakes.

I would suggest first reading the "Clan Wars 101 course" compiled by the renowned "Community Member of the Year" of 2021 himself:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Y7XJAjWI5z10uac0BTr4LH6Y0NwPjTeEuVhqWQAWioY/edit

As an optional reading:
- https://www.warzone.com/Clans/War (some optional info about the prizes other non-critical stuff)
- https://www.warzone.com/wiki/Clan_Wars (same as the link before, but more words)

After that you may apply for active clan-war clan. Aim at no lower than top-4! They are considered by some to be the elite of CW!

Good luck!

best way to learn about clans?
Join one.

Beginner clans,... whatever.
Older large clans, e.g. TLA,...

I am astonished how differently clans here organise and the kind of clan activities they have.

Probation periods are in most clans.
Test it, if it doesn't suit you (maybe due to time zone), move to next clan.

And fiver's post, who ninja'ed me.

edit: some corrections.
