Clan Wars 2?: 9/21/2022 18:08:33

Hub thread so we (I) stop derailing other threads. 3 questions:

1. Should the subset of the community dissatisfied by Clan Wars make its own Clan Wars competitor event to demonstrate how we think a casual-inclusive(?) competitive(?) clan-level real-time(?) competitive event should work?

3. What should this event look like?

2. Who has the time to work on this?

My view:

1. Yes. While this will take significantly more effort and requires navigating hurdles, it's more likely to yield fruit & probably faster overall than trying to rain dance as we have been doing.
2. Depends on the answer to #3. If there's little available effort, we should just build something that analyzes QM games (and players can react by playing QM differently for the glory of their clan). If there's 2-3 people willing to set aside time, I think we should just build a CLOT semi-seasonal ladder with clan-vs-clan matches.
3. I will, but I'm not going to build something again unless: 1) it actually matches what users want; 2) I'm hopefully not the only one working on it/who wants it

There are three objectively bad things with CW now:
1) Matchmaking. If a clan has a very low CW rating and 2 players from that clan join the same template, they are nearly guaranteed to have one of them not have a game (and no free win); regardless of how many opponents there are present.
2) Rewards. Near the end of seasons, ranking is almost set in stone, meaning that there is very little reward for continuing to participate (this seems to be solved by shorter seasons). Everybody with at least 1 win gets the same rewards. This means in a clan, there can be a group of people playing 20 games and a group of people playing 1 game, both receiving the same rewards.
3) Supports spite. If you make a big cooperative game/ event, you should make sure that nobody can hurt their group by doing bad actions. The CW/ cap violates that principle. Several capped CW-focused clans were met with a decision whether to kick people from their clan who don't participate in CW. Harmony, and possibly other uncapped clans, suffer from the 40-player CW cap. We had players who join CW and then don't participate. What are you supposed to do with such players? On one hand, this behaviour damages the whole clan and cannot be tolerated; on the other hand, are we really supposed to punish people for showing interest in a clan event?

I guess one thing that could be done on Warzone’s end is to remove the limit of number of people in a clan but instead limit the maximum number of games a clan can take part in during a season.

For the match making should one of them have a game and the other having a free win?
I’ve got an idea for how match making could work. Highest rated participants from different clans face each other and work the way down until lowest rated face each other (and the lowest gets a free win if appropriate). Using QM rating is inherently flawed as QM is activity based not skill based. Is best for the CLOT to decide player ratings for each template.
Unsure how to handle not enough clan members in a team to have a game. Would be best to avoid templates that aren’t 1v1 or have more than 2 teams for easier implementation.

The only rewards that a CLOT could give would be coins (the coins would need to be supplied somehow or being ranked a certain place (if that even counts as a reward).
Should the rewards vary based on the strength of opponents that they faced?

Multiday clan wars is basically like Clan League but different templates.

In the past real-time CLOTs and the long deceased real-time ladder haven’t been successful. How would players know to join this RT CLOT? Is there enough demand for Clan Wars to be remade better?
