Single-elimination tournaments do not accurately show 2nd place! Anybody who was defeated by the champion can be better than the person defeated by the champion in the finals! The only way how to get accurate results is by making a Single-elimination tournament between people who lost to the champion.

It's almost as if someone had already thought of that and invented double-elimination tournaments.

Double-elimination tournaments are giving rewards for 3rd place, which is rigged too since anybody beaten by 2nd place can be better than elected 3rd place.

Just play round robin if that's important to you.

Round robin can't be public && has too many "useless" fights. If A beats B who beats C, there is little reason for A to fight C.

Just keep making DE tournaments, excluding the top 2 from the previous tournament, and eventually you will have everyone ranked.

That's his favourite pastime.

double elimination tournaments are twice the cost of single elimination

Kinda wish there was an option to make a "King of the Hill" style tournament, which would essentially be a round-robin but to win you must beat everyone else in the tournament at least once.
