As it takes a while to wait for some real-time games, I do something else on the computer while waiting. However, I need a sound notification to inform me that the game has started. For a while, I was getting booted a lot because on Chrome the sound was not working on the initial game start, but would only work every move thereafter (once I had clicked on that tab).

Someone advised me to put the game into a new window, and this has worked well - the sound comes on when the game starts. However, this no longer works and neither does putting the game in Firefox and now I'm getting booted a lot again. I'll give up on this game there is no solution to this issue.

Any ideas?

Your browser can sometimes deactivate tabs/windows it thinks you aren't using. This isn't something Warzone can control as it's entirely up to your browser. There might be a way to disable this feature but I'm not sure how, you'd have to google it.

Another option you could consider is enabling notifications for game start. Warzone can send you notifications through an iOS or Android device, or to an e-mail address. That way your phone can beep. Or you can configure an email client on your computer to play an audible sound when it sees "You have been invited to a game of Warzone" for example.

chrome://discards/

can be used to disable the automatic discarding of tabs by chrome. Sadly it only remembers your settings for the session, so when you re-open the browser you will need to disable the discarding again


(please note that disabling the auto-discarding will result in higher memory usage by Chrome)

I appreciate the guidance - however, nothing has worked so far. Disabling auto discarding doesn't work at all. I even set up a new gmail account just for notifications can't even get that working yet either. I used to play Stratego.com, another turn based game and it gave a sound notification at the start of every game (using Flash) without any issues.

I had some trouble with certain tabs not playing audio with windows 7. (This was long after they had stopped supporting win 7), The problem was fixed when I upgraded to windows 10.

I have Windows 10. Sound does play turn by turn once the game is going, but the problem is no sound plays when the game starts at the distribution level.

This is still a major issue. I get booted at the start of a game often because of this. It seems that it is a software issue with Warzone. I get notifications turn by turn, but not initially. I have other tabs that give me sound notifications without any problem - e.g. Whatsapp Web.

I've been booted 17 out of the last 100 games, pretty much all because of this issue.

pay a bit more attention then mate

it always use to work even if you were tab out somtime in the last few months this started happening once you go to the game it makes a sound then even if you tab out it will make a sound just have to watch out for the * on the tab once the game takes off

White Wolf, I don't understand what you are talking about.

Rick, I often play a game with a 3 minute time before the first boot (sometimes less as the refresh cycle gets longer and longer the longer we wait for the game. Sometimes, I can wait 20-30 minutes for a game to start. It is very annoying to have to go back to the tab and check every minute or two - it's very difficult to concentrate on anything else if you do that.

What makes it worse is that I have to keep going through the stupid tutorial teaching me how to surrender.

@joseph: What WW means is that the tab name will have a '*' in front of it, so you dont have to check the tab each 2 mins, but you still need to take a quick look at the tabname to see if it started.

@White Wolf: that happes due to Chrome's tab discarding, see a few posts up.

The * only comes up sometimes, most of the time it does not display. I've decided to quit this game for now, as this is such a major issue for me. I'll check back in a few months to see if there is any better solution available. Bye all.

Try another browser? Surely one of Chrome, Firefox, Brave, Vivaldi, Safari, Edge, Opera, Maxthon, etc, will spawn better results that meet your use style?

Chrome and Edge and a bunch of others are all build upon Chromium, and the issue is probably in an underlying memory usage function from Chromium, so i would suggest you check and confirm the browser you are using is not based on Chromium.

I've tried Chrome, Firefox and Microsoft Edge and all have the same problem. Note that the problem does not exist for other tabs, like Whatsapp for Web.

I confirm that Opera doesn't work either.
