I think the second US civil war is inevitable, unless WWIII comes first, which is also inevitable. The second civil war will most likely be a war in which a few states try to secede and form a new country. I also think that the riot at DC is very much like every other riot that has happened this year, but on the opposite side. There is no reason I see for Trump to be removed. Biden is almost in the White House. No need to waste resources. Also, the Capitol was stormed, not the White House.

If there is another civil war it will be far more bitter and dirty than the last one and divided along lines of ideology rather than geography.

I hope not to see it start in my lifetime.

Civil wars take on many varied forms and very few of them mirror the US civil war in geographic factionalism.

The maturity of a political system at some point actually increases the likelihood of conflict and demise. All empires die.

If it happens it will be interesting to see how it turns out. The Roman Republic had 100 years of political crisis after crisis but still managed to expand and came out stronger than before.
