Is there a reason why my new map was not nominated for MotW, but instead two eight-year-old, mediocre maps? And one of them was already in last week's vote?
I'm just genuinely curious how the selection process for this MotW works.

If I remember correctly, the five maps are always: - The number 2 of last week's vote - The map with the highest new rating of the past week - One random map (never selected before) - Two maps, selected by members (never selected before)
Portugal got second place last week.
Your new map doesn't have 10 ratings yet, so it does not have an average rating yet, so can't be selected for "highest new rating of the past week". (Instead it's Ukraine).
Since almost all good maps have been in the running for map of the week once already, the random map and the map selected by members will probably be shitty, unpopular or new maps.

People will sometimes also nominate low quality maps to avoid multiple very good maps being simultaneously in the running - since that would mean that at most one would win and one would go to the following week, but the rest would become ineligible forever.
