Yes I played one of your games and it really demonstrates why this system doesnt work.

Just have a look at this game:

http://warlight.net/MultiPlayer.aspx?GameID=3134354

Turn 1: I start in finland, soviet starts in norway. I take finland, he takes norway.
Turn 2: I decided in my head "to hell with this game and its stupid rules". I place 14 in northern finland and take norway. Soviet Russia buddy follows the rules and by consequence I screw him out of a game. If I had been serious, I could have taken over the rest of his territory, but as I and chaos dragon were taking
the piss.

Of course the problem here is that no-one is bothering to follow the rules, or only some people are. Anyways onto turn 3.

Turn 3: Soviet russia buddy complains in the chat, I decide it is time to take the piss even more:

This image does highlight another flaw though. There is no point to this game when there is fog. You can essentially say whatever you want. No-one believed me only because I was being an absolute asshat because I thought it was funny for some reason, but you could easily accuse someone of doing something without anyone else having any idea.

My point is that it is a nice idea, but doesnt work.

turn 2: (was saying I could have just won him over, but chose to abandon instead to annoy him essentially)

well what you are saying is true, but a majority of players (id like to think) will follow the rules

when you do make them though, make sure they are practice, as cheaters can boost their stats easily

I think this might be something worthwhile, IF you had 6 players who already knew each other (clan members, or something like that), and could be counted on to follow the rules.

Tsurugi, if you didn't like his game or rules, why join? No reason to be uncivilized.

i remember that game. Was ahead of the number 2 by double his income but i voted to end. We were allies :D

Though i actually would want to play the game with everyone abiding to the rules. I did :\

For everyone going on about how the rules can't be enforced, and that they don't work, they do. Except for Tusurugu once, and another idiotic player, everyone has always followed the rules. And if they don't then he can't win, because everyone will come at him/her (Do girls even play this?). Plus, there isn't one person who has ever won this game by blitzkrieging people. Everyone has always won through diplomacy, so even if someone cheated, they have a 93% chance to lose. Again I'll say it, Blue you were a bit of a dick, and as for everyone else, a lot of people like this game. Because it adds diplomacy and new ways of winning. So please, don't judge me because I made this game. Please.

Copyright is evil! Abolish it! Contributions are for the common people, not one! Everything is public! Remember "ours" not "mine," Comrade Soviet Russia Buddy! Apart from that, I have seen a game mode similar to the type you have proposed, which was Le Count Joseph H. Stalin's United Imperialization. If you need proof, I can provide it.

I am not criticizing you, as it does go deeper than Stalin's version, and it is a VERY interesting game mode. However, hardcore players are the only type that won't troll in your games, but there will almost be at least one or two game trolls. Accept the fact that there will very rarely be a "utopian game." The general public is simply lazy and cannot adhere to complicated rules. Perhaps open seat prerequisites will help curb the troll amount in your games, and I would be interested in playing your games.

Revolutionary regards,

Problem is, now everytime I go on and play this sort of game, the easiest way to win is just lying. Blitzkrieg (or whatever you want to call it, blitzkrieg is a military tactic...not a preemptive or surprise attack).

Attack someone and tell everyone else they "blitzkrieged you". Why would anyone follow the rules, when it is so much easier to lie to win.

I really don't think this game type is new. There are a couple of games similar to this that I am playing right now. The reason you don't see games like this open to the community is that they are only fun to play with friends.

Tsurugi,

Do you find the point of Warlight to be winning by whatever way is easiest? Why not create games with altered settings, giving yourself an advantage? Why not set prereqs to max 100 games played?

I don't play Warlight simply for the sake of winning, but rather the fun of the game, and I think a lot of people would agree with that view
