@Glass, this is the same concern again - ladder stalling. If the concern is just for ladder stalling, then make vacation not apply to ladder games.

FIX THE LADDER STALLING PROBLEM. Ladder stalling is the problem. Fix that. Botching the vac system doesn't fix ladder stalling, as people tell me it's still a problem, just vac makes it worse. So make ladders out of scope, ever for ongoing games.

You're missing the point.

Ladders should honor vacations. That's because vacations are to take a break from the game, not to manage a high game count. Could the system be improved? Yes. Is making it so that vacations have no drawbacks an improvement? No.

The vacation system sucks, and it needs improvement. If it means excluding ladders from vacation applicability altogether (or perhaps just making ladder games resume when a move is made in a game while normal games remaining on hold), I think that's a huge improvement over what we have today.

If when you finish a game has an effect on your ranking in a ladder, then it seems to me that the ladders themselves are the problem. You should change it to be more like a tournament, where you don't get a ranking until you finish all the games in the tournament.
