Bumping threads etc.: 6/22/2020 19:25:21

Hi, I just read on the wiki "don't bump a thread only for the sake of bumping, messages containing just "bump" will be removed", but it seems common practice as I often see "bump" messages.

I also read "don't re-create locked threads, threads that try to circumvent a lock by creating a new thread to continue the discussion will find their threads deleted" but again it seems common practice as sometimes I see threads "that are a continuation of the previous thread" because the previous thread locked itslef after 30 days of not being bumped

So what? Should we bump or not? continue threads or not?

What are the alternatives?

If you cant "bump", then what? Just give up, accept that no one is going to respond?

If you can't continue an old thread in a new thread, just accept that you missed your window of opportunity and never write about that same topic again?

thanks for the answer but I was asking why this thing doesn't seem to be enforced (bump messages and continuation threads don't get deleted)

That's my way of essentially saying, why bother enforcing it? There are no good alternatives to not doing those behaviours.

If you don't bump, you get an unnecessary new thread.

If you don't create new threads, you get dropped topics.

If you drop topics, what's the point of forums?

So bump. And create new threads that continue old threads.
