I say save it, people are ridiculous trying to ban the word "bossy" in America. Out of ALL the foul language or words THEY decide to try and ban "bossy". I am outrage about this why cant some people ignore when being called Bossy? I get called bossy all the time and I ignore it.

I loled at that article. Their facts are bullshit. Sounds like another one of those feminist articles where they are convinced women are treated so unfairly and men get treated better. I don't have anything against equality; in fact, I'm all for it. But many feminists take it way over the top.

You know, after all of the things Americans try to ban, I'm not surprised people want to ban the word bossy.

I think feminists need to understand something about equality : They ARE being treated rather equal in the workplace in the sense of pay. That guy is buying your dinner. I think they aren't in management positions because they're always asking to be a secretary.

they are trying to treat the disease (reinforcement of traditional, patriarchal gender roles) by attacking an extremely minor symptom (a particular word theoretically used to discourage girls with leadership skills). i would prefer a generally more positive approach that emphasises the ability of young girls to become leaders rather than 'banning' a word, which is not an inherently sexist word.

to "ban" a word is obviously an absurd notion, and the campaigners are obviously not literally trying to remove a word from the english language. i think what they are trying to do is raise awareness of teachers/parents who might find assertive girls to be shrill, and not realise that they are unconsciously reinforcing gender roles. when i heard it i certainly thought about my little cousin, who is always telling me to do this and that when we play together, telling everyone where to stand etc. being a fucking amazing feminist i trust her judgment and do whatever she says, but i do recall her mother calling her "bossy" for it.

tl;dr: they aren't wrong but they're going about it in a shitty way, although obviously not as shitty as their MRA counterparts.

actually looking at the website again i was far too even-handed. it's fairly obvious to anyone with the most basic reading comprehension what they are trying to do (and it isn't to literally ban a word), and it is supported by what we in the logic business call "facts" and "statistics", which do not deserve mockery. i have no problems with the campaign at all and they shouldn't have to fit their message around anticipated reactions of retarded neckbeards trying to push their misogynist agenda.

How many top companies have a female ceo? What % of their upper management/boardroom are female? How many countries have a parliament/congress with a majority of women?

Are their statistics definitely, 100% accurate? No, but they don't seem absurd either.

X wouldnt it make more sense to keep using the word and just take away the negative conotation?

The idea is that bossy isnt just a symptom of the problem, but that its part of a cycle, women are told to stop being assertive therefore there are fewer women with power therefore women are respected less therefore women are told to stop being assertive.

I break this cycle in my own head by (dis)respecting people whether they have power or not. Maybe the feminists could take a leaf out of my book?
