We would then first have to define who 'we' are. Are we our body, or our mind? If we were to keep our consciousness past the death of our human body, this implies that our consciousness, and therefore 'we', lives in a higher dimension which cannot be perceived by our earthly senses, our 'self' inhabits a realm beyond our physical reality.
So what if our conscious is not in our brain, what if our consciousness exists outside of our own brain? That our real selves are something outside our own body, and we simply influence our body through the brain? Then we would subscribe to ancient philosophical thought, more modernly defined as "Mind-body dualism".

The conclusion is that you can do it with an animal now, and it wouldn't be considered bestiality. Assuming that you are indeed a consciousness, and that this consciousness can transfer between species.
