@Baer, I am considering using rankings to break ties, but official league rankings don't start until after next season. And even then the rankings would only be used if the tie-break steps failed to break the tie.

Update (June 18th)

Only 1 day since my last update, but Group 1 has just finished, so thought I'd fill you all in on the final results there.

Once again, no promotion/relegation information will be provided on this update.

“H2H” means “head-to-head” and "(T-B)" means "tie-break"

Group 1 (FINISHED)
Player #seed W-L|H2H(T-B) Placing
GuestNWHSzY 10-1|1-0 1st PhucilliJerry 10-1|0-1 2nd mslasm #3 9-2 3rd Checkmqte 6-5|1-1(26-34) 4th Tof #4 6-5|1-1(23-37) 5th Baer #1 6-5|1-1(20-40) 6th Pavluski #2 5-6|1-0 7th jac 5-6|0-1 8th Star-Lord 4-7 9th GeniusJKlopp 3-8 10th Syphen 2-9 11th DrowningManatee 0-11 12th
Finished! In a bit of an upset, Syphen beats Tof to finish things off in Group 1! Syphen finishes in 11th position. A win could have seen Tof grab 4th outright, however with the loss we now have a 3-way tie between Tof, Baer, and Checkmqte for positions 4th-6th. With H2H results unable to separate them, it's time for another tie-break.
Step 1, check for any boot losses. No, not one boot loss by any of the three players.
Step 2, check results against other players in the group. This step compares the wins of the players they have beaten against the wins of the players they have lost against. Basically in this step, wins against higher players are good, and losses against higher players are bad. In this case, Checkmqte comes though on top (26-34), with Tof 2nd (23-37) and Baer 3rd (20-40).

Another match has finished in Group 5, with Bonsai defeating Dimitris. Bonsai is starting to look like he'll be finishing toward the top of this group, but there are some H2H results agaist him so he'll need to keep winning and get some luck for a top-2 finish.

Once Group 5 is closer to being finished, I'll post a provisional Promotion/Relegation Guide for next season. The basic idea for the restart is:
1st-2nd from each group (10 players) will form Group A
3rd-4th from each group (10 players) will form Group B
5th-6th from each group (10 players) will form Group C
7th-8th from each group (10 players) will form Group D
9th-10th from each group (10 players) will form Group E
11th-12th from each group (10 players), wait-listed players, and kicked players who wish to rejoin, will form Group F. Group F tournaments will hold a maximum of 12 players, and up to 3 equal groups will be created depending on numbers.

Obviously, as there are some players who are leaving or being kicked for having 3 or more boot losses, this will be changed slightly to accommodate that. The aim will be to fill the groups (from "A" down) to their 10-player maximum, so if a group A player drops out, the 3rd placed player with the most wins would be moved up, creating a space in Group B, which would be filled by a 5th placed player, etc...

Wouldn't it make more sense for the 3rd placed player from the group in which the drop-out occurred to take his/her place?

Since in this season all groups are considered equal, it needs to be fair. There are five 3rd-placed players, but why should one of them be benefited by a drop-out without any consideration of the others?

In a normal season, the next placed in the group would take the promotion automatically, however in that case the groups are not equal.

While you could argue this is true, it's the people in the group of the drop-out that are placed lower because of him playing, and their record is affected by the player leaving. The groups are created pretty much randomly, some groups are stronger than others, and it seems (at least to me) more fair that the group that was affected by the player leaving is the group out of which an extra promotion is grabbed

I will a present a more extreme case then. Let's say the top 4 players in a group all dropped out? Should I give 5th and 6th place from that group a spot in Group A, while 3rd place in the other groups misses out?

If there's that many drop outs you should probably do an afterpool between numbers 3 and the number 5/6 of that group, but this isn't such an extreme case :p

With multiple drop-outs in one group there can be something said for promoting several number 3's, but if there's one drop out, it makes more sense to take the number 3 from that group, the one that was affected by the player that dropped out, than take the one with the best record. In theory the fairest way would be to make all numbers 3 fight, since the records don't say anything about H2H's, but with a number 3 going up a group, a number 5 has to as well, and a number 7 and so on, and it'd take way too long to fix all that in a truly fair way.

You are right, so probably the only really fair thing to do would be to not move anyone up, and leave a gap in the higher group that can be filled by extra promotions next season if necessary.

@Meldarion, I hadn't thought of it either until we had this discussion, but that is one of the points of having this league forum. I need other people to challenge my ideas/give input. That's what make the league run best! :)

@Rheumakay, I'll provide a list of departing players once Group 5 wraps up, but at this stage there are no "top 2" players leaving from any of the groups. The discussion is more a 'what if' rather than what is actually happening.

Not including those players who are being kicked for having 3 or more boot losses, I believe Bohun is the only departing player so far.

3 days since my last update, and Group 5 is racing toward completion, so instead of showing win/loss since last update, I'm switching to showing H2H and placings like the other groups.

Seggel beats Bonsai and bzox beats The Joey, meaning we do end up with 3 players on 8 wins in group 5. In this case, however, no tie-break is needed, with H2H results in Seggel's favour against both players, while bzox has beaten Hunta. In the other match finished, Kevin Turner has beaten the Joey. Both remaining matches involve Hasdrubal, one against Bonsai and another with Kevin Turner. A lot riding on those matches, with Hasdrubal able to finish anywhere from 5th to 9th depending on how they finish.

Agree on leaving a gap - it is unquestionably fair and gets the other 99% of players who are unaffected playing sooner
