With so many players per group (and so many new faces, for this league) it is a bit hard to keep track of who is doing what, but nice updates huddyj!

I think in my group (Group 1) competition is strong (based on the feel of all my games, won or lost), and as a result of the 4 seeded players I think only Tof has a good chance to win the group. I sure root for PhucilliJerry though, go Apprentice :) (in my game vs. him I attacked neutrals with 1 less army than needed two times, something I haven't done like ever, but his performance is giving me excuse not to be upset about it :). I only lost 1 so far, but the way games are going I will sure lose a couple more, expect to end up at position 4+/-1)

In Group 2 huddyj so far lives up to his high seed, however dauti has the best chance to win the group I think - he only has one loss so far and he won vs huddyj. Some good players I know from the past leagues are somewhere in the middle of the group, so looks like competition is strong in this group as well!

Update (May 19th)

11 days since my last update, with plenty of progress to report.

As well as showing results since last update, I've also indicated which players are seeded in each group for those interested. It's been tough work for seeded players in some groups, but for the most part it looks like they will end at least in the top half of their respective groups.

Group 1
Player #seed W-L/since last update

PhucilliJerry 8-0/0-0
GuestNWHSzY 8-0/3-0
mslasm #3 6-2/3-1
Tof #4 5-0/1-0
Baer #1 5-3/2-0
Checkmqte 5-4/1-1
jac 5-5/2-1
Pavluski #2 3-3/2-1
Star-Lord 3-7/1-2
GeniusJKlopp 3-8/1-4
Syphen 1-9/1-2
DrowningManatee 0-11/0-5
Group 1 is getting to the pointy end, with Guest, Tof, and PJ all still undefeated to this point! Some of the more significant results since last update are: Guest beats Pavluski to continue his perfect record and take a big step toward Group A next season. Checkmqte beats mslasm, but loses to Genius! Very contrasting results there! mslasm will be disappointed to lose that one, and Checkmqte must be hurting after getting such a big win only to drop a game to one of the bottom players, which surely puts him out of contention now. In summary, only 3 losses and you could still make Group A here, so there are still 5 players in the running.

Group 2
Player #seed W-L/since last update

huddyj #1 8-3/1-1
dauti 7-1/2-1
ADHDnl 7-4/1-0
rocky1 #4 6-4/1-0
kirdol 6-5/0-0
Bohun 5-2/4-1
KaitoS 4-5/1-1
Meldarion 4-6/1-1
Matt431 #2 3-5/1-3
Cata Cauda #3 3-6/0-1
Menda 3-7/1-2
TianO 0-8/0-2
Only 3 people are still in the running to win this group, but 5 still have a chance at a top-2 finish. ADHDnl finishes with a crucial victory over Bohun to move into 2nd place for now. dauti surprisingly boots against rocky1 in what looked like a 50-50 game, which keeps rocky in the race! But dauti also gets a win over Menda, and more importantly, he beat me (huddyj) to give himself a great shot at winning the group. I finish off with a win over KaitoS to guarantee a top-3 finish for me, and put the pressure on Bohun and dauti to finish strong. Matt has lost his Group A chance with a bad run of losses to Meldarion, Bohun, and Menda.

Group 3
Player #seed W-L/since last update

Maschder 9-2/1-0
AI #1 9-2/1-0
k.o. 6-3/0-0
Ragnar Lothbrok #4 8-1/3-0
SNDBX 6-4/1-1
Ameter #3 6-4/1-1
Olja 6-5/1-1
Diestramenos 3-6/0-0
s1gmoyd 3-8/0-0
BlacKnight #2 2-8/1-3
Viking1007 2-9/1-1
Captain Trips 0-8/0-3
Ragnar Lothbrok has his destiny in his own hands here. Winning both remaining matches would see him top the group, 1 win and 1 loss would see a 3-way tie at the top between Ragnar, Maschder, and AI, and 2 losses would see him miss the top two altogether. The crucial matches will be Ragnar vs k.o., which is underway and in the 17th turn at present, and Ragnar vs BlacKnight, currently into turn 10.

Group 4
Player #seed W-L/since last update

Suschel #4 9-0/1-0
Rheumakay 8-1/2-1
graemes #2 8-2/2-1
iNsAnE #1 6-1/2-0
Fc Bayern #3 6-4/6-3
Taji 6-5/0-1
Thorben 5-6/0-1
ViralGoat 5-6/2-3
Brian the Brave 3-8/0-1
lh70 3-8/0-1
Roele 1-10/0-1
Dianne Abrams 1-10/0-2
Rheumakay loses a match to ViralGoat, but makes up for it with good wins over FC Bayern and graemes. graemes also beats FC Bayern, and adds another win against ViralGoat. Suschel beats ViralGoat, as does iNsAnE. Fc Bayern loses to ViralGoat, but beats everyone else below him to probably finish 5th. Top 4 will most likely be made up by Suschel, Rheumakay, graemes, and iNsAnE. Oder still to be determined...

Group 5
Player #seed W-L/since last update

The Joey 5-2/4-2
ARand0mPlayer 4-0/3-0
bzox 4-1/2-1
Hunta #1 4-1/3-1
Seggel 4-2/2-1
Dimitris_Wingo 3-2/2-2
Wiz Wizz Wizznson 2-2/1-2
Kevin Turner #4 2-3/0-1
Hasdrubal #3 1-2/0-2
NoobSchool 1-5/0-3
Bonsai #2 0-0/0-0
吴克 0-10/0-2
吴克 continues to boot games (another 2). Bonsai still hasn't finished a match. Wow, just wow! This is small earth people! Not that hard to finish a game... Anyway, excluding boot results, ARand0mPlayer beats bzox and
NoobSchool and looks good so far in second place. The Joey beats Seggel, NoobSchool, Hasdrubal, and Wizznson to sit on top of the group, however lost a game to Hunta and another to Dimitris. Hunta also beat Dimitris and Kevin Turner, but lost to Seggel. Seggel beats NoobSchool. Dimitris beats Hasdrubal. Wizznson beats Dimitris.

Those are some nicely formatted standings! One more game in Group 4 has finished and it's now safe to say that this group was a tale of two cities.

The bottom eight have finished all their games and all will finish with five losses or more. These eight players went a combined 2-30 against the top four players. As the best of the rest, FC Bayern and Taji grab the Group C spots and Thorben and ViralGoat grab the Group D spots.

The top four currently sit like this:

    *Suschel is undefeated
*Rheumakay was stunned by ViralGoat but is otherwise undefeated
*iNsAnE was upset by Taji but is otherwise undefeated
*graemes has logged losses to Suschel and Rheumakay, spelling trouble for tiebreaks

Two situations worth mentioning:
graemes (me) has clinched Group B but has a murky path to Group A. Even assuming a win over iNsAnE, I'm riding two losses including a critical loss to Rheumakay. The only path to a top two finish is for iNsAnE and Suschel to drag Rheumakay down to three losses.

Suschel is surprisingly vulnerable despite sitting at 9-0. The problem is that a four-way tie at 9-2 leaves Suschel and graemes getting the short end of stick on tiebreaks.

I think Group 1 has a winner now, and moreover all top 3 places are now set regardless of how the remaining games turn out. Congratulations GuestNWHSzY for the win, and PhucilliJerry for 2nd place! I ended up 3rd with a bit of help from Pavluski booting in a close game - and now hope top 3 promote :), as I could not find an official statement about how this preliminary tournament seeds players into "real" groups A-B-C-etc. (if top 3 promote from all 5 groups, does it mean real group A will have 15 players? Not sure what I think about it, on the one hand it means lots of games, on the other hand a single loss due to a momentary slip or a slow pick on a map with crazy wastelands will matter less)

Intrigue is not lost in the group though, as there is an interesting fight for the 4th place (as well as 5th, 6th and 7th): Baer, Checkmqte and Tof all can end up as high as 4th, while Pavluski can be as high as 5th. Baer and Checkmqte have a better chance of being 4th, since Baer has the least losses (among the contenders) so far, but he has a game vs PhucilliJerry which he may lose, while Checkmqte won vs. Baer and with the same number of wins he has the tie breaker. I predict Baer - Checkmqte - Tof - Pavluski.

----------

Group 2 has a winner too, congratulations dauti! Huddyj is guaranteed to end up 2nd, and I think ADHDnl is guaranteed to be 3rd - congratulations as well!

I have said several times, only the top 2 in each group will go to Group A. And every 2 positions after those will be a lower group. 10 players will be maximum for a group in the normal seasons like it has been previously.

Nice summary on Group 1 mslasm. I came here to congratulate Guest on top spot and add some commentary but you’ve got that covered!
I think I’ve got Baer beat in our game, but you never can quite know against him.
I did have some luck, especially with first game against mslasm before he had the settings down and against Pavluski with the boot when he had the pick advantage on me....
Good luck to all going forward no matter the Group you end up in!

Update (June 1st)

Almost 2 weeks since my last update, and while no group has finished, it's time to start showing head-to-head (H2H) results and probable finishing places for Group 1, 2, 3 and 4, as they are very nearly complete. Group 5 will continue to show win/loss since last update rather than tie-break information.

Please note that I will not be covering promotion or relegation information in this update.

Group 1 (3 matches left)
Player #seed W-L|H2H Placing
GuestNWHSzY 10-0|1-0 1st PhucilliJerry 10-1|0-1 2nd mslasm #3 8-2 3rd Tof #4 6-4|1-1 Baer #1 6-4|1-1 Checkmqte 6-5|1-1 jac 5-6 Pavluski #2 4-5 Star-Lord 3-7|1-0 GeniusJKlopp 3-8|0-1 10th Syphen 1-9 11th DrowningManatee 0-11 12th
Congratulations to GuestNWHSzY for winning Group 1! The match between Guest and mslasm is ongoing, but can’t affect the final results. Guest has the H2H tie-break on PJ, so even a loss will still see him winning the group. mslasm can’t change position either. Tof, Baer, and Checkmqte are currently locked in a 3-way tie in 6 wins, but with both Baer and Tof still playing, I expect at least one of them to snatch another win to save me a headache. Pavluski is also a chance of reaching 6 wins, so things could get interesting here. Genius finishes in 10th place going down on H2H against Star-Lord, who is still playing. Syphen will finish in 11th position, and DrowningManatee comes last with 8 boot-losses and gets kicked from the league.

Group 2 (1 match left)
Player #seed W-L|H2H Placing
dauti 9-1 1st huddyj #1 8-3 2nd ADHDnl 7-4|1-0 3rd Bohun 7-4|0-1 4th rocky1 #4 6-5|1-0 5th kirdol 6-5|0-1 6th Meldarion 5-6|1-0 7th KaitoS 5-6|0-1 8th Matt431 #2 4-6|1-0 9th Cata Cauda #3 4-7|0-1 10th Menda 3-8 11th TianO 1-10 12th
Congratulations dauti for winning Group 2! Still 1 game going between dauti and Matt431, but it can’t affect the final placings. If Matt loses, he still beats Cata Cauda on H2H, while if he wins, both Meldarion and KaitoS have to H2H in their favor against him. And since Meldarion also beat KaitoS, there is no 3-way tie to resolve which I am happy about!

Group 3 (1 match left)
Player #seed W-L|H2H Placing
Ragnar Lothbrok #4 9-1|1-1 Maschder 9-2|1-1 AI #1 9-2|1-1 k.o. 7-4|1-1 SNDBX 7-4|1-1 Ameter #3 7-4|1-1 Olja 6-5 7th Diestramenos 4-7 8th s1gmoyd 3-8 9th BlacKnight #2 2-8|1-0 10th Viking1007 2-9|0-1 11th Captain Trips 0-11 12th
Group 3 is in the balance at the top, if BlacKnight can upset Ragnar, there will be a 3-way tie for 1st, and already we have a 3-way tie for 4th place. At the other end, Captain trips has 3 boots, which means he’ll be kicked or placed in the bottom group. H2H ensures that win or lose, BlacKnight will finish in 10th, meaning 7th through to 12th places are decided. Since the H2H tie-break rule can’t split the 3-way ties here, I’ll be digging out the rule book to see the next tie-break to use, but I’ll save that for when this group is finished! Let’s just say Ragnar has a LOT riding on this last match, with a loss almost certainly meaning he’ll finish 3rd, and a win ensuring top spot.

Group 4 (1 match left)
Player #seed W-L|H2H Placing
Suschel #4 11-0 1st Rheumakay 9-2 2nd graemes #2 8-2 iNsAnE #1 7-3 Fc Bayern #3 6-5|1-0 5th Taji 6-5|0-1 6th Thorben 5-6|1-0 7th ViralGoat 5-6|0-1 8th Brian the Brave 3-8|1-0 9th lh70 3-8|0-1 10th Roele 1-10|1-0 11th Dianne Abrams 1-10|0-1 12th
Amazing result in Group 4, with Suschel sweeping through to a perfect 11-0 record to claim top spot! Rheumakay has done enough to claim 2nd, with H2H ensuring graemes can’t overtake him. The winner of graemes vs iNsAnE will decide who finishes 3rd and 4th. 5th to 12th are also decided, with head-to-head required in every case to decide finishing positions!

Group 5
Player #seed W-L/since last update
ARand0mPlayer 7-0/3-0 Hunta #1 7-2/3-1 bzox 6-2/2-1 Seggel 6-2/2-0 The Joey 5-2/0-0 Dimitris_Wingo 4-4/1-2 Hasdrubal #3 3-4/2-2 Wiz Wizz Wizznson 3-6/1-4 Kevin Turner #4 2-3/0-1 NoobSchool 1-9/0-4 Bonsai #2 0-0/0-0 吴克 0-10/0-0
ARand0mPlayer beats Wizz, Kevin, and Dimitris to push ahead in Group 5, sitting undefeated thorugh 7 matches. Hunta beat NoobSchool, Wizz, and Hasdrubal to also reach 7 wins, but also lost to bzox. Bzox also beats Dimitris, but lost a match to Seggel. Seggel adds to that with a win over Hasdrubal, and is looking pretty solid so far. As well as the already mentioned losses, Hasdrubal grabs a couple of wins against Wizz and NoobSchool. Dimitris manages to find a win over NoobSchool as well, as does Wizz. NoobSchool is sitting on 5 boots, and will be joining 吴克 in getting kicked from the league. Bonsai has taken several vacations in a row, and needs to be careful not to break the league rule of 3 vacations maximum, otherwise he may add to the list of players getting kicked from Group 5.
