I have a few more ideas for seasonal ladder templates, but for the next season I thought it would be fun to let the community decide!

In this thread, please post a template that you would like to see in the seasonal ladder. It must be either a 1v1 or a small FFA (4 or fewer players), since that's all the seasonal ladders supports right now.

Please post three things:

1. The name of the template. If it doesn't have a name, make one up for it.
2. A link to a game that was played on that template. A link to a game is better than a link to the template since it allows people to more easily see what the gameplay is like.
3. 1 or 2 sentences describing why you like the template, or why it would be good for the seasonal ladder.

I'm gonna kick myself for suggesting this template because I still feel like I have a lot to learn on it, but I think Strategic Greece is a wonderful template for separating more skilled players from less skilled players. See http://warlight.net/MultiPlayer?TournamentID=7185 for an example tournament.

My favorite template ever is probably guiroma. It's got great gameplay and most players are at least familiar with the map. See http://warlight.net/MultiPlayer?TournamentID=5176 for a good tournament with mostly high quality players.

Both the above templates are 0% luck straight round... if you want 16% weighted random, I think East Asia & Oceania is a good map/template. Despite much of the map not getting used (the islands to the northeast are usually worthless), it has a nice combination of chokeholds and wide open space that can result in really interesting gameplay. See http://warlight.net/MultiPlayer?TournamentID=8533 for a tournament in progress with high quality players.

Finally, I'm not going to suggest this template, but simply mention an idea that Nich implemented: random cities distribution, neutrals of size 10, and lots of wastelands of size 2. The idea is that you get a layout that resembles random warlords, but some territories have multiple picks available while others have none at all. Makes for an interesting game. Here's an example of this idea applied as a variation on Heavy Earth: http://warlight.net/MultiPlayer?GameID=5046550 . I'm not a big fan of heavy earth but I wonder what this would do to the standard medium earth template?

I could provide a lot more suggestions but I think this will do for now ^^;

I suggest EA&O 1v1 16% weighted random. It was already linked above so I won't link it.

Treasure Map 1v1 was interesting, like Pushover said about EA&O, there are quite a few good combos and areas to fight in and a large part of the map is left unused, mainly the islands in the east and west of the mainland.
Also there are so many possible counters to every bonus it makes risky picks sometimes pay off and trying to guess where your opponnent is hard
One of the live streamed tournies they did on it:
http://warlight.net/MultiPlayer?TournamentID=6775

Could be very interesting with randomised bonuses as well, as it could bring into play the outer bonuses as they would be worth a lot more.

EDIT: I think Pushover's suggestions for guiroma and Greece are good options as well, would have suggested guiroma had he not already done it.

I would also suggest Qina but I doubt it would be accepted - http://warlight.net/MultiPlayer?TournamentID=9316 a tournament on it in case you want to check it out anyway

I don't care about the map, but it should be a 1v1 with at least 8 picks for each player.

So I think I'm gonna go ahead and suggest a Multi-attack (MA) template. This is one of the best MA templates I've ever played and it's from the Mutiattackers league 1. It futures several interesting settings such as 50% luck, 4 picks for each player, and 8 starting armies.
Example of a game: http://warlight.net/MultiPlayer?GameID=3711380
Link to tournament: http://warlight.net/MultiPlayer?TournamentID=3745
Template name: Europe Multiattack - NC, 50% Luck, League 1
(I believe it is created by AWESOMEGUY)

Well If I had to pick a template it would be either GuiRoma or MasteRoma

Guiroma - http://warlight.net/MultiPlayer?GameID=4699544 (A real man shows a game that they lost)

MasteRoma - http://warlight.net/MultiPlayer?TournamentID=9396 (I live tournament that used it)

The difference is that Masteroma has 2 in territory distribution (For more expansion), No blockade card (There are too many choke-holds on the map to make blockade cards fair imo), and Cyclic move order (I think Cyclic move order adds more strategy no matter what.

Now the Roma templates are my favorite because it is a truly balanced map. Everything on the map is pretty much up for grabs, unlike Medium Earth where the are limmitted good starting spots.

Well thats my suggestion :)

Strategic 1v1 settings + local deployments with airlift and reconnaissance cards (normal fog). Additional cards change the strategy quite a bit (and I normally hate the airlift card). http://warlight.net/MultiPlayer?GameID=5713355

Otherwise, something with SR and lots of chokepoints. Thought this was fun. http://warlight.net/MultiPlayer?TournamentID=5333

The fun of the seasonal ladder is to play with different settings, I don't know if this was used on old seasons but I would like to play under Heavy/dense fog :D (obviously with spy, reco, surv cards). Probably a 4 FFA.
As for the map I can't think on one right know :P

POLAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Auto picks works as well, depends on what you want. There is a good portion of players who LOVE poland map; 1v1, team games, ffa. A lot of different things can be done to the template and it still work, multi attack for instance.

It is a hard template for newer players because they want to capture entire territory bonuses when they should be going for just cities.

I second lawm's vote for Poland. It works well as a 1v1 and 4 Player FFA and it incorporates a different strategic approach which hasn't (to the best of my current knowledge) been used on the Seasonal Ladder yet.

Not a template, but my 5 cents on what may be preferable.

Although I love local deployment and settings like last season, I think it's not suited for the seasonal ladder. Games tend to be much longer (easily 20+ turns and 30+ is not exceptional at all). The force-finish is more difficult to avoid like that and delaying to achieve victory becomes a bigger problem.

On the other end of the spectrum, I don't really like multi-attack, but it generally reduces the length of games which may be more suited for a seasonal ladder.

Neutrals of 0 or 1 speed up expansion and reduce the time until the real fighting can begin.
Chokepoints on the other hand allow for stack building and increase the length of games.

So I would propose to either add another 2 weeks to the end of the season (75 days instead of 60 with the next season immediately starting the next day?) or choose smaller maps and settings in which the game is most often decided in about 10 turns and hardly ever more than 20.

I like Poland :) but i don't think it is a good idea for seasonal ladder
1. Too big
2. Too much winning or losing that is depended on luck (if auto distribution)

I think the map should be around 100~150 territories and it usually last to at most 20 turns :)

1. Most 1v1 Poland games I've seen are decided within 10-15 turns (can be dragged out to 20-25 turns if you're stalling or stubborn.

2. Never auto-distribute on a seasonal ladder.

3. Could work as an FFA as well (also no auto-distribute)

Another vote for Poland Big. And as Hauptmann said "Never auto-distribute on a seasonal ladder". Me suggestion: 1v1; 4 auto-distribute pick, 1 blocade card, 1 abandon card, 1 diplomacy card, no pieces of card, multiatack off (sorry guys I don`t like), normal fog
