Modifying an existing map.: 2019-01-11 12:32:30

Hello,

I would like to take an existing map and change some connections on that map.

I am a complete newbie to mapmaking, and have very little knowledge of how to do this.

I believe the process will be something like:

1. Download existing map.

2. Modify map and its connections.

3. Upload the modified map to Warlight.

Can someone explain to me how to execute these steps?

I would be happy with a FAQ to explain the process. A written FAQ would be better for me than a video tutorial. Does one exist?

Thanks.

p.s. I am aware of the customize distribution option. This option does not suit my needs.

You need the SVG of the map you want to modify. You cant download that, the creator of the map needs you to send it.
Alternatively, you could also just trace the map in Inkscape.

As to how to create/modify a map, consult this article: https://www.warzone.com/wiki/Map_Making It contains all relevant information.

Map connections (and bonuses, distributions, etc.) are done in Warzone itself, not in the SVG file.
If you want to modify someone else's map, that means you need:
- The SVG file (as said above, you can't download this, you needs to get it from the original creator)
- Redo all connections, bonuses, distributions, territory names, etc on your own Warzone account.
You will basically be making an entirely new map that just happens to use an old SVG file.

The only way around this is if you can get access to the account of the original creator: his/her account has access to the old map with all its connections, territory names and bonuses intact.
Is the map maker still around on Warzone?

I would say that if you can't get access to the original account, it would be a waste of energy to try to "modify" an old map, since you'd basically be making a new map. In that case, I think your effort would be better spent making an entirely new map just the way you like it (that's just my opinion, of course).
Mapmaking can be quite fun and it doesn't take long to learn!

Yeah, it would need to be YOUR map, or the creator has to give it to you.

Alright, thanks guys. I guess that I should start by talking to the original mapmaker -- Metaltubbie. He hasn't logged on for 44 days, but maybe I will get lucky.

@Murk. Thanks for the suggestion of creating a new map, I will think about this.
