... then why aren't you using them?

https://warlight.uservoice.com/forums/77051-warzone-features/suggestions/1088481-peace-treaties

This was the #1 requested feature for years. Well, now that "peace treaties" are here, why aren't you using them?

The Diplomacy mod is here, it works fine, and non-members can use mods if the member that creates the game checks a checkbox that allows non-members to join. Every week, a member can create 1 game with mods and invite non-members for free! After the first game, inviting non-members costs 3 coins per open slot.

So, let's use it!

I know not everyone will buy a membership.

I know with the Diplomacy mod that Fizzer created you don't start at peace like you're used to in regular diplo games, so use the Safe Start mod to set a number of turns where no attacks can happen the first X turns.

I know with the same Diplomacy mod peace lasts X number of turns instead declaring attacks and waiting 1 turn like you're used to in regular turns.

I know the "Advanced Diplomacy" mods that dabo1 created have bugs and too many popups, so let's use the "Diplomacy" mod.

It's so nice not having to declare war, deal with PEs, deal with 1000 lines of chat looking to see if anyone declared war on you.

But no one really uses these mods. No one other than dabo1 and a couple of other folks are involved in creating mods. Let's get more people to make mods, create games with mods, and join games with mods.

Fizzer recently updated the Diplomacy mod and allowed non-members to be invited for free once a week. Let's make diplomacy mods happen!
I created a game with the diplo mod, please join:

What's stopping you? Don't like the settings? Tell me what settings you want. I personally don't like the custom scenario setting where someone starts as a big income, say, Russia, and steamrolls everyone while the small countries scramble for alliances. I also dont like endless Game of Thrones roleplaying and clogging the chat.

custom scenarios are the best for diplo and rp

Tell me more about this competitive diplo. What settings would make it competitive? I think I know what you mean, for one the map has to be balanced, right? In that case "30 year old war" map is out because it's unbalanced as hell. And then no airlifts, no randomness etc?

no i mean competitive players playing diplo

edit: a good diplo shouldnt really be balanced, imo, because it adds to the politics/intrigue/interest when some people start ahead of others

I understand why competitive players wouldn't play diplo. Why waste their time in a FFA where many lower skill players will gang up on the higher skill player?

ummm i just mean if you get some competitive players to play, such as dutch desire, i would be far more interested, but i wont play a diplo with randoms anymore. maybe set up a "Viral Goat's Diplomatic Invitational" and invite your friends, that'd be more interesting

Viral if you want to make a diplo that everyone joins then do a custom scenario one. The map should be large enough for 40 players. Gift, airlift, sanction, spy and diplo cards are a must. Crusades, Spanish reconquest, world war and silk road fill up faster.

Competitive players wouldn't play diplomacy/FFAs/unusual team settings (4v4+ etc) unless the template really did have competitive merit. It would have to be worth the much longer time investment, as the more players involved the longer it goes.

Thank you so much for saying that. Everybody seems to disagree with me on that subject.

but i wont play a diplo with randoms anymore

This is why I've built a huge blacklist. I've dedicated my games to diplomacy and roleplay. Allowing just about anybody to join is disgraceful. Sora, if you want a good diplo join some of my games, you can check the big project games I've been doing on my favorites.

Forgive my skepticism, I come from an era where the most vocal diplomacy clans weren't very impressive

I got a mail the other day, from someone using my LD mod that I didn't know was using my LD mod :)

It's hard to know for sure if a mod is used, since we don't have any way of tracking it. Best you can do, is to make the games you want after all

Yeah, that game won't fill anymore.

My guess is that distribution mode is the main culprit. With manual and 7 picks per player everyone will be all over the place. TBH I've never seen a diplo like that. Custom scenario or auto/manual with 1 pick seem more popular.

Also why is army cap's number so random?

Good point.
I wanted to play some settings that are non standard. The distribution is for the case where you get killed in some start locations so you're not eliminated. With only 1 pick you can get eliminated quickly.

The army cap is so that you don't sit still and let the others fight and accumulate armies. But it can't be a low number because you'd start with zero income.

Yeah I'm just saying that 8.199999809265137 is a really weird number for army cap

edit: and since you start with 7x15=105 armies and 10 base income, you'll have 0 income on turn 1 anyway

If you need help creating a good custom scenario, I'd be down.

As far as competitive players playing diplomacy, it does happen, but it's not common, as most of them won't want to play more than one over several months.
