How do people do it? How many hours of sleep are you getting?

Lately sleeping has been incredibly challenging for me. I don't know if it's because of my diet. Maybe I'm deficient in something that helps people sleep, but I have received 0 hours of sleep this night and two nights before. I slept well yesterday after eating a lot of ice cream and chips, but on my normal diet sleeping for even a few hours seems to be a challenge.

In my case, I don't get very tired. I try my hardest to fall asleep, but I don't think I get drowsy enough. Being able to actually sleep feels more like a challenge than a natural habit, which is not how it's supposed to. Is it possible that my body could require less sleep than the average person? D:

it could be possible that u require less sleep than other people. the time one requires to regenerate is different for every person. some people also use polyphasic sleep to minimize they r sleep time. but to me your sleep habit looks rather unhealthy than normal. do u have this problem for a longer period or only recently? lot of things can influence your sleep pattern so its hard to say what factors are responsible. if u suffer under it i definitly would recommend to consult a doctor. on a biological level sleep is partly regulated via melatonin synthesis. i dont know if change of diet can influence it since i am no expert in the subject of sleep but maybe u could look into that as well

You might be stressed about something and that might be why you’re not sleeping at night. About 30 mins before going to bed, try switching off your computer/phone. I’ve heard that once your in bed and go on your back with your eyes closed, you’ll naturally go to sleep faster. During the day, you could do something that requires more energy than playing games all day every day.

For me, 7-8 hours is enough. I have semi-developed a sleeping pattern.

I sleep at least 6 hours a day. Sleep habits we learned as children affects sleep behaviors as adults.

Poor sleep or lifestyle habits that may cause insomnia or make it worse include:

1. Going to bed at a different time each night
2. Daytime napping
Poor sleeping environment, such as too much noise or light
3. Spending too much time in bed while awake
4. Working evenings or night shifts
5. Not getting enough exercise
6. Using the television, computer, or a mobile device in bed

Your English looks fine to me. Anyway I am glad you asked if this has been a recent issue, because yes it has. The quality of my sleep has never been consistently high quality. Sometimes I have periods of consistent decent sleep, and sometimes I have periods of very difficult and irregular sleep. My sleeping patterns right now are inconsistent, but it's only been recently that I am having days of 0 hours of sleep. I noticed that when I consume a lot of carbs, I get slightly better sleep. I am on a keto diet, so I consume probably around 10 carbohydrates per day on average. Thank you. Going to a doctor is a last resort but may be necessary if I can't improve.

@To everyone else

I think the problem has to do with tiredness, because if I'm not drowsy enough nothing is going to help me fall asleep, and that includes eliminating light. Also I'm not particularly stressed, and I walk a lot so I'm outside and exercising. It's very nice that some of you are getting 7-8 hours of sleep. I wish I could!

Thank you all.

i think your sleeping problem is probably directly tied to the technology you're using, namely the phone and computer are the worst for you! also make sure you're hydrated, in a quiet safe environment, and try not to eat 2-3 hours before you sleep. some people like background noise to take their mind away, or use the sleeping masks, but 8 hours of sleep is a luxury. 6 is much more common, afaik. I get 4-6 hours daily

But I never changed my habits when it comes to that and I have gotten much better sleep in the past

it's about the bright lights they make you more aware and harder to fall asleep

a screen is like a thousand tiny bright lights shining in your eye

Take Melatonin. You can find it at any Walmart. 3 milligram should do you fine. It literally takes no willpower to just take a pill that will make you sleepy. It is also very cheap.

https://www.google.com/search?q=melatonin+walmart&rlz=1C1CHBF_enUS693US712&source=univ&tbm=shop&tbo=u&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiokYPFj6LeAhWNy1MKHXvmCrMQsxgIKw&biw=1366&bih=652

It will cost you 4 dollars at walmart plus tax. That is a bargain for 4 months of consistent sleep. And to be honest, it won't take you 4 months to get into a good sleep pattern. Probably only 3 weeks. btw, if you are weaning yourself off of Melatonin then I recommend breaking the tablets in half and then fourths.

Melatonin will
1. Make you fall asleep within 30 minutes to 1 hour. i.e. I think you should start taking it at midnight and then take it 15 to 30 minutes earlier every day.
2. Make you sleep longer.

Side effects
-You might feel sleepy throughout the entire day. So only take Melatonin to get you back on a reasonable sleep schedule and not to maintain a sleep schedule. You can also offset this with Coffee.
-Paranoia. Don't worry. It only lasts for a few hours and only when you take more than 4 miligrams. It is a pretty trippy experience in general though.

"...8 hours of sleep is a luxury. 6 is much more common, afaik." I get 10 hours of sleep minimum. Sometimes 12 and I don't even take Melatonin anymore.

"Your average sleeping time during this month: 7:27 hours (11:58 pm - 7:25 am)."

The information is according to a preinstalled app on my phone. I usually get up relatively early on the weekend too.

I second the suggestion to try Melatonin. In my old job, I used to only have time for 4-5 hours of sleep a night, and would rotate shifts weekly.

Melatonin worked great to be able to sleep when you get the time, or if you have to rotate your sleep schedule.

I sleep only 3-7 hours each night on the week and 8-10 on the weekends. I have a lack of sleep not because I have insomnia, but because I procrastinate too hard. Heck, I'm procrastinating right now! Anyways, I'm gonna try to get 7-8 hours of sleep tonight, so see you guys later πŸ‘‹
