You can shout all you want. Nobody has claimed to know an objective metric to measure elitism. You have, and see the result. A total joke of what objectiveness is; don't call out others on things they have never claimed. It makes you look like an elitist. Oh wait.. Whoops.

It's simply hypocritical that someone is trying to create a metric for elitism yet has no problem using intelligence as a way of superiority in an argument.

That being said, you were an overall nice person and I wish you a safe future.

i think elitism is a real thing, usually fostered by clans. if a clan is stronger, people will want to join it, to be with the rest of the "elites"

a.k.a. elitism

hmmm, idk if that is elitism, but if you consider in that direction,

1) players trying to leave template voting to Div.A clans only for CL in past or Div. A and B clans only for CL9 and 10 or
2) ethics panel member voting (wanting A/B clans only to vote) or
3) moderator revealing a report to a player (misuse of moderator powers),(just?) because he is an "elite" player or
4) no gg(is still fine) or flaming(not at all good) at low elo players or players from "not so elite" clans after a loss. (This happens with many casual players too, but I mention it specially because for some players, those few words spoil the mood of well-earned victory.)
5) players trying to invite players from other clans to join their own clan (or associated clan) saying "Being in this clan is prestigious" or "Join the elites" ....

as an indication of elitism, then it exists.

Community is welcoming to new players (when I joined then and when I see new players now).

Actually after further thought I am not an elitist because I greet most players I play with regardless of their status.

You always greet me with " You're a noob. You can't win this game" on my alts.

Now we look at Clan League 10, We have Masters who have Apprentices that newbies can enter, Lynx has 101st as a entry point for newbies, ONE! and Outlaws who are very welcoming for clans that are apparently the 3rd/4th best in the game, have very lenient entry requirements. M'Hunters who are 5th will welcome anyone and everyone. GG who are elitist even tried branching out with GGr.

just an fyi i love the community here and everything i've learned is through the help directly from the community! also there are tons of community events. the community here is very hardcore and supportive and has helped build an amazing environment (elitism cant really be avoided nor should it be punished its rather natural)

90, you're a nice dude. You're easy to offend, but regardless a cool guy. That being said we're not asking for a metric of what elitism is, and even if we were, whether someone talks or not is a terrible metric. If I talk down to others or downplay accomplishments while parading my own, I'd consider myself elitist, but I don't think it ever crossed anyone's mind that not chatting was elitist. A tad unfriendly maybe, but elitist? Well I guess you did.

I think when we're discussing the elitism issue, we need to be serious and think about the nuance behind every seemingly elitist action that takes place rather than to promote black and white thinking based on 1 variable.

Weaker players showing a strong willingness to improve are valued by many clans. In fact, 101st rushes after these players faster than an American rushes after a plate of smoked bacon. Sometimes I can find a new player on the ladder, and I can click on their profile: I refresh their page 2 seconds later and they are in 101st. I question myself if I am dreaming sometimes with that clan. :P

Okay jokes aside, I remember two users whose names I guess I won't say, whom both played on the ladders and are reasonably skilled players. Can you guess who any of them are? Well one of these users would insult the weaker victors who came out on top over them, while the other would insult all victors equally.

The former could be considered an elitist according to a few people here, while the latter could just be considered an asshole. However if you think a bit further, the user who insults only weaker players isn't an elitist either. He just simply doesn't like losing to players below his skill level. He wants to make sure his opponent knows he's not better than him so he throws in a butthurt comment.

I think that 90s metric might have some merit if we have players who literally only greet those who are highly skilled, but I think many elite players greet based on kinship, not based on skill, and even then, many still don't greet at all. I see many if not most high-skill games in which neither player greets each other too.

Elitism based off of whether or not someone says "hi gl" to their opponent seems flimsy at best since "elitism" itself has not been explicitly defined by a testable set of criteria. Unless your definition of elitism is a player who doesn't greet their opponent, which is intuitively what you are claiming (which, from what platinum indicates with his definition, this does not seem to be a good proxy definition for "elitism").

If you wanted to prove your theory that whether someone who does not greet their opponent is clearly a sign of elitism, first you must prove with statistical certainty that it is. Until you do this my conscience as a scientist will reject that metric.

lol. so much debate about elitism, allow me to chip in on a subject we all have to endure to some degree or another.

it basically comes down to the fact that humans have egos and if allowed to fester they can reach a point where it suppresses their empathy.


every country on this planet is and elitist society, it serves the interests of the few to convince the many that their greed is a good thing. You will always have the less aware that believe the elitist when they use words like democracy and equality but in does not matter how much bullshit you pile upon it the truth is always there.

there is an amazonian tribe around 10,000 strong that have no social hierarchy, the smallest child has the same value as the oldest adult. prob the best example that exists today of a decent social system but i am sure there has been many in human history but its not a history any elitist would want taught in their education systems, but i am going off track, lol.

back to wl, well as everyone on here will of been subjected to an elitist culture its no great stretch to predict elements of that encroatching into the forums of a fun but competitive game. it is just human nature to copy people, and unfortunately alot of people look up to the elitist in these cultures and wanna be like them.

and as elitist is just a posh name for arsehole we end up with a socioty filled with arseholes. but lets hope we can keep them to a minimum on wl.
