You may remember this experiment if you have ever taken a 101 Psychology course. Random students at Stanford college were taken and randomly assigned to be prisoners or guards in a fake prison. Then the "guards" started acting more aggressively and torturing the prisoners while the prisoners started acting more meek and timid.

Communists, Leftists, SJWs, and most especially Anarchists love to cite this famous experiment to show that hierarchies turn normal people into monsters and that hierarchies need to be abolished. My Psychology 101 teacher compared the "guards" in the experiment to police officers in real life.

Well, it turns out it was all a fake. If you hear your Psych 101 teacher citing this experiment then talk to her after the class and explain to her that her information is out of date. Textbooks need to be changed. No doubt, people will continue to still cite this experiment in daily life.

This is just a reminder that science can be faked and we should be extremely skeptical. I can't wait until the majority of scientists wake up to modern day hoaxes like Climate Change.

the real problem is not if this or that have been manipulated or was wrong somehow. The problem is that social sciences in the us tradition makes these insane controlled "experiments" and extrapolate wildly from them.This mimicking of how the natural sciences conducts experiments in the social sciences is insane, and requires that you have never thought about what you actually study or any kind of methodological issues in general really......

Seriously though, hierarchies may not make people mad with power, but a total position of power does. No wonder N.Germany and Soviet union showed no care for human life. It may not breed sadism, but it breeds totalitarian cruelty. Lord of the flies is one of the perfect example of this.

lots of pop psych (and some of behavioral econ) is built on faked or sketchy or very limited experiments. the flavor text about liberals and global warming ain't really tied to the subject, just Nikolai's take on it... which is cool I guess. I don't see why every thread on the OT forum of the online version of a board game has to be full of debates and dick-swinging contests. I don't come here to validate myself as an intellectual but if I did I think that'd be my signal that the good times are over and it's time to kill myself or do something new with my life.

you're more than welcome to try and start debates here even if i think that's generally a disingenuous recruitment tactic (internet politics is bleh), but that doesn't mean other people have to engage you or that people who choose to engage do so in the context you want them to. OT is a broad category and people come here for their own reasons that generally don't match yours. world is always gonna be full of people that don't behave the way you want em to, and part of life is learning not to bitch about that- either tolerate em or figure out how to orchestrate the largest (and counterintuitively, also the most targeted) mass murder in history.

Moral "psychology" experiments are bunk. Participants in these studies are smart enough to figure out the narrative of the experiment and and play along with it.

It wasn't well said but I guess nobody bothered to debunk it because it was tl;dr. Knyte, if people come here for their own reasons why does that mean having arguments about politics is somehow bad; if you want to talk about something else make your own thread or derail a politics thread but don't tell people they can't have debates here.

What I think knyte is trying to say is, there's no reason to attack T-Rex for not wanting to debate but here's where it gets complicated: he joins in these debates with half-legit opinions but then acts like he doesn't have to argue for them and just insults his opponents after making a weak point. The only way to counter that is to bring the bantz

People debate politics on OT because there are lots of people on OT who want to debate. Don't overthink it.
