Things are getting exciting in Syria. On Feb 8, shooting started between the SDF (a mix of Kurdish and Arab militias) + embedded US special forces vs SAA + Russian mercenaries. This is the first time Russian and US forces have shot at each other since Vietnam.

So why did the Russians lose 300 (killed and wounded) compared to 0 US casualties? My theory is that Russians are actually pretty terrible soldiers and the only reason they have such a reputation is because they can always run away, hide and wait for the Russian winter to do the work for them.

But there is no winter in Syria. There is fighting all year round and they have no strategic depth. So on an even playing field the Russians are actually pretty shit at fighting.

Russian mercenaries aren't comparable to US special forces (and obviously, US air superiority). Russian military power can't really be directly compared to ours; we invest an order of magnitude more than they do (esp. on R&D), and that sure pays off when it comes to being way better.

Russia's government is mostly a threat along unconventional axes like hybrid warfare and of course NBC weapons.

^^When you realize Russia's capital was actually taken by fucking Poland and the nation has survived for as long as it has because of its climate, size, and environment; not due to its military might. That's not necessarily a thing to make fun of, though. Many countries make the most out of their terrain.

The SAA will win, I bet. The U.S. half-assed what they wanted to do in Syria to the point where it's too late to actually depose anyone without another 2003 Iraq happening. And the U.S. knows that.

The Russian mercenaries didn’t have any counter measures, they were attacked by artillary and air power. No army had a chance in that situation.

If you think an artillery bombardment and airstrike preempting a lone mercenary infantry force's assault on an oil refinery shows military superiority of one nation over another, you are hopelessly lost.

Thats pretty much completely accurate, however im still confused as to why US is even allowed in Syria since i believe they are technically illegally in Syria, which is a sovereign country (Russia is in there legally)
