Big wheels keep on turning
Carry me home to see my kin
Singing songs about the south-land
I miss 'ole' 'bamy once again and I think it's a sin

Well I heard Mister Young sing about her
Well I heard ole Neil put her down
Well, I hope Neil Young will remember
A southern man don't need him around anyhow

Sweet home Alabama
Where the skies are so blue
Sweet home Alabama
Lord, I'm coming home to you

In Birmingham they love the Gov'nor, boo-hoo-hoo
Now we all did what we could do
Now Watergate does not bother me
Does your conscience bother you, tell the truth

Sweet home Alabama
Where the skies are so blue
Sweet home Alabama
Lord, I'm coming home to you, here I come

He's nominally pro-choice but isn't for changing any Alabama abortion laws. I would not call him pro-abortion personally.

I was just pointing out how funny this turned out to be, the redest of red states just elected a democrat to congress, but to be fair to them, I guess electing a child molestor would've been downright nuts.

The worse thing in all this, is that so many GOP figures (+Trump/Banon) backed a child molestor just to lose at the end. Shows that many of those conservative figures are nothing but hypocrites. And in addition, this stupid partisanship backfired, they lost the seat and democrats will use that against them for the next ten years.

Looks like this is a strong contender for worse political move of 2017 with Theresa May's snap election. After 2016, britain and the US are again contending for the recklest political action of the year once more...

@knyte true that

Alabama isn't a monolithic red state. The people who would normally elect a Republican by a 30% margin were more likely to have stayed home (or submitted a write-in vote for Nick Saban or Luther Strange) this election. The people who elected Jones are disproportionately urban, somewhat educated, and generally non-white.

This wasn't the whole people of Alabama electing a Democrat so much as Alabama Democrats turning out much more than Alabama Republicans. Not as crazy if you look at it as a turnout-driven event in an already polarized climate.

The last election, Jeff Sessions won the seat with 97% of the vote.

If 97% red isn't a monolithic red state then I don't know what is.

Sessions was opposed by a write-in candidate which you need to know the persons name before you show up to the polls. While that might not seem like much but with modern voters...

As I understand it, Bannon was more popular than Strange. The nationals wanted Str,ange they backed up, dumped on Bannon and ignored the wacko. The Strange was so poor a candidate, he could not beat the wacko. I would think the yearbook was what sank Moore. He said something never happened and he was confronted with proof he was lying.

The yearbook which was the most damning specific allegation was shown a forgery. You have the general allegation that Moore is a perv and he hates Muslims, Jews, etc. the typical labels cast on opponents of the left. These labels only spook the most left leaning conservatives. What spooked his voter base was the fact that his own Republican party abandoned him. Because Ryan and McConnell have shown themselves to be spineless and apologetic when confronted with allegations of sexism, racism, etc. Basically all the attacks opponents of the left face. The only way to be a strong republican is to deflect these attacks. The Democrats and neoliberals always deflect, the Republicans rarely deflect.

I read that it were the black folks who were the ones behind the major change in voting results.

How?

Looks like this is a strong contender for worse political move of 2017 with Theresa May's snap election. After 2016, britain and the US are again contending for the recklest political action of the year once more.

yeah and y'know, ignore more missile-provocations, ignoring Treaty on the Proliferations of Nuclear Weapons, persecution of the Rohingya, America leaving UNESCO, the whole Catalunya mess, and many more.

Just since you don't care about that doesn't mean that everything happens in America or Britain.

since some sleazeballs upholding another sleazeball is much worse than all that.

Check again, America isnt planning on leaving. Just the special snowflake, the USA, wants to leave.

On a serious note, Juq is right. This is just 1st world problem, and not a "strong contender for worse political move of 2017".

On what basis do you claim that it was a forgery?

Just out of curiosity, do you believe that Bill Clinton is a rapist?

The "victim" admitted to making it a forgery. She is completely irrelevant.

Forgery is when counterfeiting is executed in a way that resembles falsification of a document, paper, signature etc. Hitherto, it has been established that piracy - whether digital or not - can be seen as a form of forgery mixed with some other factors, which is exactly the reason why the antidote for this particular issue has to come from neither the sword nor the shield, but from both of them mixed together. As a consequence, this new antidote can be called 'the swield' due to its ability of having both attack and defense maneuvers that have an explicit result when it comes to annihilating forgers.

I rest my case.

The short version: No she did not.

The accounts I have read, have Nelson appending a descriptive comment to what is alleged to have been Moore's inscription and signature, in her high school yearbook.

Asking friends, acquaintances, and admired strangers to sign ones yearbook, was not then, nor is it now, in any way unusual. Neither would there be anything odd about adding a descriptive comment.

In all of this, what is asked for is a judgement. Did the man do anything untoward? She claims that he tried to force her to have sex with him. By denying that the writing in the book was his, Moore's lawyer seeks to deny that his client ever knew the woman. That is a lawyer's job, to cast doubt upon accusations. The problem is that she has not reneged on her claim, moreover her lawyer has retained a handwriting expert who claims the inscription and signature is Moore's, as reported on by the Chicago Tribune.

There has been no assertion on her part of having spoken a falsehood, on her part, that I know of.

The question stands, unanswered.

None of this gives evidence beyond any doubt that he assaulted Nelson, but to say that because she wrote in the book that she owns, that it then follows that anything else in that same book is fake, is too rich. It seems enough of the voters found that tidbit and the rest of the buffet to much to swallow.

Black people always vote overwhelmingly Democratic so they're not behind any sort of change, just their typical identitarian preference. What changed was skeptic White Republicans staying home because their party cucked its own candidate.
