Catalonia looks primed to make an independence attempt. If they succeed other separatists in Spain will likely follow suit and that's a wrap.

You had a good run, Spain :(

^Will Catalan independence succeed at all? I mean it is really just about how ugly Spain is willing to be in order to subdue Catalonia.

I don't doubt that a mere police action won't be able to arrest Catalan leaders. However does Spain indeed care about the international community enough to NOT send troops into Catalonia?

Independence is not that easy to achieve.

The longer it takes for the EU to finally fall apart the worse it is for all of us. (except the cream of the crop Eurocrat elites)

^Spain does not have lots of Natsocs. However from my observation ordinary Spaniards from other regions are really mad at Catalans for trying to secede from Spain. Even the center-left El Pais has lots of commenters who actually want to do something to Catalonia. Instead of believing that the Spanish government is too brutal they believe that the government needs to get its hands dirty (e.g. arrest Catalan leaders). I used Google Translate to see what's going on and it's not good for secession-minded Catalans.

Imo, they should hold an official referendum in Catalonia and approve of the independence when there is an 2/3 majority as it's part of the constitution.

There's probably no 2/3 majority, but there might be in the future.

Not possible. I do not think with the current climate there could be a fair election in Spain for the next several weeks, maybe months...
