All three played the game past the point they should've. And what the opponents said was kinda meh, imo. A simple "just a couple more turns" would suffice. I agree with MoD on a soft ban if done again, seems reasonable.

I also remember this happening,

https://www.warlight.net/MultiPlayer?GameID=12924096

While this is technically not stalling, just being assholes and not accepting surrenders, and what I assume was much deeper than the game itself (my bet is the same reason pana was kicked out of Masters), where do we draw the line of what is acceptable and what is not?

(TBest told me to be more controversial, so here it is :

Seph beeing a dick isn't really big news :D

I'd still trust him my son. Or maybe my dog? Or probably better none of that

Yeah, that does not surprise me either, and I did find it amusing, but imo, behavior like that should be given a warning.

Agreed. Instant surrender would easily solve these problems

What do you honestly expect from a Italian player?

Seriously speaking.

is taking 3 days per turn on a 3 day game stalling?
or just REALLY thinking about your moves?

If CL div A is anything to go by it's the latter, they took forever.

if the goal is to encourage players to play faster in ladder games then i would suggest something like extra card pieces for the faster you play.
say if you take your turn within
- 1 day you get 3 card pieces.
- 2 days you get 2 card pieces.
- 3 days you get 1 card piece.

I think this would encourage most if not all players to play within 1 day but would be unfair for anyone in a ladder who cant get on warlight every day. but again if these were the rules then everyone who joined would know and perhaps be more committed to play daily.

as far as the alt in ladders go well thats just a joke. surely the more computer savvy guys amongst us must know away to stop more than 1 account from same IP joining ladder?.

If you take all your turns with a 3 days playspeed, you're not stalling just playing slow.
If you slow down your gamespeed significantly when you start losing or drag the game out much longer than needed you're stalling. Taking 3 days to take your turn doesnt mean you're stalling perse. I've not seen anybody claim such a thing in this thread either.

Seems like a rather unfair system to people who can't be on Warlight every day.
Missing even one day will put a big dent in your cards, which can mean the difference between a win or a loss in some games.

of course they can. A rule isnt pointless because you can work around it, you can work around most laws as well. There's often nothing directly stopping you from doing something. The purpose of the rule is to discourage users to play the ladders with alts and to make it harder to do so in general.
I would also say it's often fairly obvious when someone joins the ladder on an alt. Even when they hide their ip, the account itself often will show signs of an alt. In such a case I think it could be discussed to ban the account. Although this is obviously shaky ground and you have to be careful with this.

I guess you could change the boot time to 1 day instead of that solution. Would have the same effect but would be much easier to implement. I don't think that's the right way. Playing slow doesn't mean stalling. There are other factors that have to be taken in account

Bad definition... implying you know the intentions of every player who has slowed down when they are at a disadvantage. There could literally be thousands of other reasons for it.

If you keep playing (turn speed doesn't matter) when you know you have LOST. you are stalling the game.

Regardless of my advantage/disadvantage in a game I'll play at whatever speed I like until I consider the game lost and then surrender.

Players don't have to play fast in 3 day games and don't have to login daily too, and for faster games we have Quick Matches.

Also, playing certain turns slow doesn't means stalling either- as some players have good come-back turns by thinking through/predicting well (sometimes can see past games too, trying to see how the opponent player plays/picks).

like said by all, when a game is lost totally, and there is no possible income/position advantage for a comeback-playing turns slowly to manipulate the rating/ranking (or just to irritate opponents :P) is to be called stalling.

Seph was not being a dick. He wanted an answer to the riddle. He wanted to give them as much time as possible to answer so he waited to accept surrenders. That's nice for seph!

Stalling is a serious problem in Warlight. I don't understand why the boot time can't be two days. I hear over and over "some people can't get online every day". If that is the case, if you can't get online, don't play warlight. Leave the game to the people who will show up and play.

This game is meant to be played at a reasonable pace, games shouldn't take a month.

Anyway, there is stalling and slow play in every kind of ladder there is. It's a drag and I think it would be significantly more efficient if the boot time was 2 days. Or, better yet, 1 day and 12 hours.

If a person can monitor their turn and take them at 2 days and 23 hours every time, it means they have the time to take their turn. Further, most of the people who stall are on Warlight all day, every day. You can literally see this. It's not that they can't get online, it's that they are trying to slow down momentum and luck themselves into a cheap win or a boot.

In summary, my kingdom for shorter boot time in the ladders. It would solve EVERYTHING.

I do not agree with 2 days boot idea. If you play like >10 competitive games at a time, it happens that you need more time for some of them to think about a strategy. If it is a really close game I usually take like 1 day break and only then start to count all possible moves.

It's not really a serious issue per say, sure it's annoying and gaming the ladder through stalling is lame, to call it serious is overblown.

Stupid statement. Warlight was meant to be played at about a 2-3 day pace per turn or else it would not be 3 day boot.

I have work, I need sleep, and sometimes I lack the motivation to take turns. You dislike that? Too bad.

You can't say that's why all players who play slow do it, unless you suggest someone like Math Wolf is only hoping for boots or something.

Just because you can take 3 days/turn doesn't mean it should be standard. I see it more as an offer if you can't be online on weekends for example.

I like my opponents when they play fast at the beginning of the game where it's open and anyone can win but suddenly when they are losing the game they "need more time" to construct a strategy to come back. If you don't need time to create a winning strategy in the beginning of the game, I'm sure you can do the same when you're behind a game.

Patience is something many people apparently lack here. Why do you guys get triggered when someone takes 3 days for a turn? Dont you have something else to do?

Blah, blah, blah. Most of this discussion will lead us anywhere, but not to a good result.

Boot time is 3 days.

And it everyone and his dog is used to it. We won't change it. Nothing against you (@johnmd), but everyone in the competetive strategic scene knows, that sometimes real life hits in and you have to play a bit slower. Nothing wrong with that. 3 days work fine.

Stalling is a different issue and through my eyes stalling is:

a) Play on a completly lost game
b) Play significant slower than usual in a very bad situation

Playing slower in a close game is very usual for most of the players, I noticed it from pretty much everyone. Only if you competly do not care about the result, you will play as fast as usual in such a game.

Stupid statement. Warlight was meant to be played at about a 2-3 day pace per turn or else it would not be 3 day boot.

A slow opponent may be annoying, but I would not say it is unethic in any kind of way.
