Stefan Molyneux compared alimony to getting fired from your job and then forcing the company to continue to send you paychecks.

How about since you're so interested in this field you volunteer for electroshock yourself. Lots of GBT people are happy with their life and don't give a poppy if you have a problem with them, and have zero reason to waste their time or risk side effects from electroshock treatment.

So how about you go volunteer to see if electroshock changes your own sexuality. If it doesn't, you can repeat the process until you have a big sample or it changes and then publish your results.

Besides the fact that electroshocking people for sexual orientation is probably anti-constitutional and a flagrant violation of human rights, why care at all wether people are really gay or not?

The way I see it, LGBT people don't bother no one, and in the practical side, the more LGBT people there is, the less breeding you'll have, which is very good for the planet. Less people arround is good, means less schools, less parental leaving, less resource-consumption in a world on brink of ecological disaster, ...

I don't believe Republicans/right are by default anti-gay rights and democrats/left are by default pro-gay rights, that's being simplistic and a manicheist vision of the world. However republican representatives don't really help setting the record straight (straight HAHA!), by taking anti-gay marriage stances, putting forward transgender bathroom bills against a non-issue or Trump banning transgenders from the army with no other reason than to please to his base...

If you'd like to create a thread you must first subject yourself to electroshock therapy. I believe it will drastically cut down on the amount of stupid shit posted on these forums.

Back in the day, in the United Kingdom, they had an analogous idea. In post war period if you had the misfortune of being convicted in a court of having had homosexual intercourse you would be given a choice. You could go to jail, or you would be compelled to submit to a medical treatment, which was intended to eliminate all sexual desire.

One such individual who ran afoul of the law was Alan Turing.

Alan Turing, of course, is famous for having played a lead role amongst the code breakers at Betchley Park, during the Second World War. He and his colleges regularly broke the Enigma and Lorenz codes, allowing Allied intelligence to read the enemies mail.

This, according to Winston Churchill, substantially shortened the war, and doubtlessly saved untold millions of lives.

So despite his having been considered a national hero in Britain, in 1952, government officials arrested and prosecuted Alan Turing on the charge of "gross indecency" when he admitted to maintaining a same-sex relationship.

Rather than serving time in prison, Turing chose to undergo estrogen injections then considered in men as a form of “chemical castration” eliminating their sex drive. Turing took his life two years later by swallowing cyanide just two weeks short of his 42nd birthday.

What a way to treat a hero!

Instead of doing ghastly things to homosexuals, we should leave them alone.

Is a stable marriage something great male scientists don't have?

Certainly there are exceptions. There are examples of couples who collaborated in scientific work. The Curies are a prominent example. Antoine Lavoisier, the father of modern chemistry, is said to have had a happy marriage, and Madame Lavoisier was herself a remarkable woman.

It would be as easy to think of counter-examples.

@Pie You are absolutely right on having an electroshock before every major decision. Its just inefficient and encourages the status-quo. Furthermore, people would probably take it too far and get electroshock-ed before they ask for a raise or vote.

@Padraig Yes. There are many examples of exceptional Scientists who were able to balance marriage and work. But the question is "Would they have been even smarter if they weren't distracted by marriage?"

I think the answer is Yes. Obviously, they were happier to share their life with somebody but human civilization was held back by their selfishness.

"^I saw a manosphere article claiming that a stable heterosexual marriage is something great male scientists generally don't have because the type of personality that makes one a successful husband is bad for creativity, reason or something."

I don't buy the reason. I do however buy the premise. What makes someone a great scientist is typically passion for their field. Someone who is overly passionate about their job tends to suffer from tunnel-vision of sorts which would typically make their interpersonal relationships suffer.

I'm sure there are exceptions, but anyone, regardless of field, that spends 80+ hours a week obsessively studying something is typically going to not have time in their lives for other people.
