I live just an hour from Pittsburgh, PA, USA. Saying "soda" tends to be frowned upon by your peers here. Whats that like everywhere else? And do you have any other instances of this sort of thing?

In the Northeast of the United States, folks ask for a soda. Throughout much of the U.S. people request a pop. Where it gets weird for me is in the southern states where the generic term for a soft drink is coke. Then again some of my aunts would ask the children if they wanted a soda-pop.

With the variations in drinks these days you almost have to say "do you want a green tea, or an energy drink, or a fima, or maybe a brewski, or just a gatorade?"
I live in Arkansas and if I'm asking for a "soft drink" from a fridge I ask for a soda.
