Sounds neat.

will there be any way a map maker can have a gold value thats separate than an army value for a bonus? I’d like to make a map that’s primarily for this game mode, but don’t want non members that’d play on it think its imbalanced because theyre playing normally.

No, but you can make a template that sets the bonuses to their commerce values and also turns on commerce mode, then just recommend people use that template. This is better anyway since your settings will likely depend on the other commerce settings, like army multiplier, city cost, and base income.

I set up a quick multi game in commerce mode. It uses one of my regular templates and none of the commerce settings have been altered. Looking for people to join to see what it's like.

I would have upvoted your post, but unfortunately my voting rights were taken away for reasons I don't know.

Neat feature. I think this could add a nice layer of strategy. Hopefully we'll see some cool new templates! Maybe Fizzer should organize a template competition(can be strat/diplo) and get the WGL crew to stream it ;)

p.s - If my understanding is correct, "use gold to buy armies on specific turns" is the equivalent of saving a reinf card and playing it on the turn you want? Of course, being able to vary how much armies cost on each turn wasn't possible before(reinf card based on % of turn number was something similar). The city and income management is definitely a welcome addition as well.

Bane, my Firefox freezes when I open that link in unity. And there's no way to open the game in the stand-alone version. Maybe invite me to the game Bane. Fizzer, anything I can do about that?

FAQ about Commerce games:

Q: Why don't I have income?
A: Commerce replaces income. Base armies becomes gold. Which means you don't have to deploy anything.

Try Ctrl+G. That lets you go to games by link.

Indeed! In commerce games, you won't get the "you must fully deploy" error when trying to commit, as you can deploy as few armies as you like. It's even okay to commit with 0 orders.

Other observations: the more armies you deploy, the more gold it costs. So at some point (especially early in the game) it's not effective to deploy that many armies past the threshold where every army you deploy costs 2 gold each. Instead, it's better to divide your income between building some cities and army, instead of all going to army. In time, the gold you earn from the cities will pay off better than the armies you receive. Of course if the enemy is at the door, you should probably defend/attack, not invest in cities.

Is it possible that your income is so big that you won't have enough gold to deploy them?

Let's say first 10 armies cost 1 gold each, next 10 cost 2 gold each, next 10 cost 3 gold each etc. Also assuming no cities.

cost to deploy 10 armies = 10 gold
cost to deploy 20 armies = 10+10*2 = 30 gold
cost to deploy 30 armies = 10+10*2+10*3 = 60 gold

So if you have 30 income, but only 30 gold, you can only deploy 20 armies, and your other 10 armies are wasted?

Those other 10 armies never existed -- you couldn't afford them. If you have 30 gold in those settings, you can afford 20 armies.

Could you consider adding bonuses that have a percentage-based return? All investments are currently linear, which is fine in early turns as the difference between a single army per turn can be huge... but the difference between two players earning 30 vs 36 per turn vs 5 per turn against 6 is the same. Why should a person in late-game strat 1v1 need to capture two more Central Americas to add 20% to their income, using the above example?
