King Arthur is a semi-historical figure, and I enjoy reading tales of him and his faithful knights.

Easily Abraham Lincoln. He saw what America could become, fought to make sure the Union stayed alive, and- when the time came- laid down his life in the service of this country.

He died in 1865, before this country even reached its centennial, and yet he realized that what we have here is something precious, something that must never be lost- and he did his part to make sure that my generation, and the many generations of Americans that will follow it, gets to bask in the ever-brightening sun of American liberty.

Well, if to answer the frain seriously as some have, it is Norman Borlaug. He saved zounds of folk without having to kill one of them in the filthy disgraceful process of war; he is estimated to have saved 1k million folk through his work and research in farming science.

Erwin Rommel - Disagreed with many nazi extermination policies, is said to have not executed POWs and he lead his troops valiantly and to a masterful degree against the larger British army.

But he was a somewhat foolish goy since he didn't get the concept of supply lines :P

I've always liked Gustavus Adolphus, the Swedish King who led his men into battle personally, and died a hero. Had he lived, the Swedish empire would've been much grander.

I can't choose just one, so here's a few:

Alexander the Great - Never lost a battle, fucked the Gordian Knot, conquered more territory than Rome ever owned, became a Pagan god-king through his death.

Harald Hardrada - Conquered a walled city by lighting birds on fire.

Toyotomi Hideyoshi - Thought building a castle in one night was a good idea, and was right. He is also the least scummy of the 3 Japanese Unifiers, imho, and the only one of them that can truly be considered a hero. Rose through the ranks as a nobody, showing that hard work can pay off, regardless of class.

Frederick the Great - Potatoes and Epic Rap Battles.

Abraham Lincoln - Dude kept the United States united. That means a lot more than what it does at face value.
