In this nuke games refer to sanction cards.
25% reduced income for 20 turns or 100% reduced income for 999 turns.
Generally you would only have one card the whole game, maybe have the option to gain another every 25 turns.
They can be set up with everyone gets a nation bonus much like a diplomacy game, but either have diplomacy rule or remove the rule to declare war much like a free for all, but played with caution.

Here are some variants:

What i want from you is your opinion on different types of settings/maps/rules etc that you think works best.
I chosen the 25% for 20 turns one to played as a diplo where a superpower is aggressive, and the idea was to make players work together.

Many things can go wrong with these such as players get bored and sanction someone for no reason or so their friend can gain from it, several players have the goal for player "A" to win.

I've played a diplo with 100% for 9999 turns, with one starting card and no new pieces per turn before... that was pretty fun. Until about 7 people sanctioned the same guy and wasted their cards. :/

I think the trick is to get others to use theirs while you retain yours.

I tend to only go to war with the ones who have already used them up.

Interesting idea.
I have never played such a game, but wouldnt that lead to a stalemate?
Just like today, where everyone has nukes and no one attacks.

Yes it often does but someone always get an itchy trigger finger.
