SCOTUS Did Something Right!: 6/24/2016 03:27:18

SCOTUS blocked Obama's immigrant proclamation. What scares me is that 4 of them thought he was allowed to do what he wanted.

BTW, A quick shout out to the UK. Brexit or bust. Hope the results don't change by the end of the vote.

I will be busting my ass laughing at the fact that everyone made Brexit to be a big deal if it fails.

Good thing the action was stopped. Am I the only one who thinks executive action should be gotten rid of?

it should have PE yes. But then our dictator in chief wouldn't have been able to get a lot of things passed which he wanted to get passed.

If Crooked Hillary gets into office, the SCOTUS will be filled with pro-Muslim immigration judges.

If executive orders were eliminated then the federal government would be incapable of doing anything. They've accomplished precious little as it is WITH executive orders in place!

Let's not forget that these orders are a bipartisan thing. Reagan, Clinton and both Bushes used far more per year than Obama has.

Why are liberals so stupid? The number of orders doesn't matter; making 100 national parks is different from changing the law. Whenever anyone says "Obama used less than Reagan" I immediatly know they are an idiot.

Also, the gov't doesn't have to do shit. If it matters, Congress will act. Otherwise, let liberty run free.

Nice assumption but you have no clue on my politics.

I beg to differ regarding Congress acting. They've done bugger all. They're too partisan to be able to accomplish anything. There is zero respect from the majority of either party for the other party in order to be able to compromise.

You are a prime example of that problem. Anyone who disagrees with you is automatically and idiot and there is no point listening to them. Congratulations, you are what is wrong with modern American politics.

Richard Sharpe, since you're such a fan of executive orders, just remember that all the power President Obama is accumulating in the executive branch could potentially be passed on to Donald Trump. And those who defended Obama's use of executive orders will have no rights to complain. You had your chance to limit the government's power but didn't want to since it was on your side, have fun when the other team gets it.

For the record, I don't think Democrats or Republicans should be abusing executive power. But it annoys me to no end how people can defend Obama's abuses while at the same time shouting apocalypse at the prospect of Trump having the same ability.

Again, you assume to know my politics. Over the last four elections I have, my vote has been split between the parties.

Both parties are at fault. I merely supported the Executive Orders because Congress is so ineffective and toxic that EOs are the only way to possibly accomplish anything of meaning. And let's be honest, the Executive Orders have existed since Lincoln's time. They were going to be available to Trump/Clinton/whoever regardless of how often Obama utilized them. Your argument is specious.

If Congress refuses to do their job then someone else has to step in and perform it. Seeing as Congress has crippled the Judicial branch then I guess it has to be the Executive branch.

EOs have always existed, yes. But few presidents have overstepped boundaries with them the way Obama has.

The President has no business dictating immigration policies to the states, and he certainly shouldn't be using his power to make bathroom laws.

Honestly, if you're gonna sit here and tell us that the power of the Executive hasn't greatly expanded under recent administrations you'd have to be historically ignorant. Our government was set up the way it is to prevent the President from getting the type of power the position is potentially able to now grab.

President Obama didn't invent the Executive Order, no, but he HAS greatly increased what one can do with them. That increase in usage will undoubtedly be taken advantage of by Trump or Hillary, and that scares me.

Then blame Congress and their refusal to act or cooperate. Blame the current toxicity in the parties. Why do you think 'outsiders' were so successful? Because the people in the middle are bloody single-minded idiots who refuse to consider the thoughts or opinions of others.

I agree with you that polarization of our politics is a huge issue, and it's probably going to be the one that eventually screws us if we don't find a way to deal with it. However, letting one person or group make a huge power grab isn't exactly the best solution.
