(Yao Guai is mutated bear)
You walk back up to house, enter and look around

The house is small. There is a rifle on the wall hanging there. A small elderly woman is cutting up a Yao Guai roast. She has long white/blonde hair. You look more closely at the old man, and see his clothes are very basic and probably made out of Brahmin skin (no offense Jai).

"So, could we talk about that fee before you eat?" Says the old man.

(They're poor and you offered to pay them for some hot food, that doesn't sound very serial killer-ie, does it? Also they live outside of a Enclave base, if they were serial killers that house would be a pile of burned rubble)

"First I'd like to ask some questions. One is how do you survive out here with all the robbers. Second is, do you know anything about the area. And I think 5 caps is a pretty reasonable fee, if it includes all the info I need. I can also help you with any problems you have, if you want."

"15 caps? Sounds alright young man. The local geography? Now I've talked to your Enclave folk before, and from what I know of you guys your power maps are pretty nifty. They ought to be able to tell you just about all you need to know about the local geography. Now, the people in the area? That's another story"

His wife and him set the table and serve you a large slab of Yao Guai meat and some water in a glass. They also sit down and start to eat , and you do too.

"Oh I hunt and trap animals. Sometime traders come by , but they've been doing it less since the NCR came into the south and recently into Portland. More money to be made trading with the NCR merchants I suppose. The bandits have been becoming less of a problem, due to them trying to attack NCR troops and getting knocked out of commission."

You look at your power map, and notice that far to the east of Oregon is a place called Chicago. What's a Chicago? Anyways , zooming in on Oregon reveals some information about Portland. It's outdated , but clearly shows that the downtown of if it is a wealthy merchant district with businesses , casinos and hotels. The outskirts of it are dilapidated, and mostly ghetto-slum type places.

A. Ask more things
B. Finish dinner

"The NCR? Oh they're a big country to the south, in New California. They're rich, powerful, and have a capable military. They've defeated the Enclave, Brotherhood, and a bunch of Barbarians in Arizona. They came into Oregon with the intentions of annexing it. Their troopers are not trained well, but most don't really need to be since they're organized well. You can see them every once in a while patrolling to the west in squads of ten to twelve troopers. They tend to go into battle against raiders with hundreds of soldiers though, and I heard one battle had more than a thousand troopers in it, with the brotherhood being severely outnumbered. It was in some place called the Mogavee. Oh and I got my rifle from a company that came with the NCR. They're called the gun runners. Great folk, they came through selling weapons, ammunition and armor. Great weapons. Built a building to sell weapons in a town a little to the north."

Pull out 47 caps and pretend that is all you own. Plead with him for the weapon at a reduced price of 45 caps. If he refuses pull out the required difference from a hidden place (shoe? Inner pocket?) and forlornly state that was your money for an absolute emergency. Thank him for the trade then wish him and his wife well.
