I know what you mean and see your point, but please, please make them better-looking. They're really awful currently.

This maps look really cool, but for the specific Bonus i would argue that the most fair thing should be nominal GDP...
i already look forward in using it in some scenarios

Silesia and Pomerania are too important in (german) history and are very different from the rest of Poland, culturally and geographically, in pretty much every period of world history that is not post-WW2.

One territory OCD is fine in exchange for lovely accuracy.

I suggest you do the bonus names as the English exonym, and the territory name as the autonym.

That could be interesting Juq, but non-latin alphabet regions would be annoying as hell.

oh, and Imperator, thanks for your efforts... and your results!

It makes the game so much better to have sooo many nice maps,
but I really appreciate the efforts of map makers like yourself too. :)

As far as the irregular boundaries...
I like the accuracy of them, I really do,
but in a game, smooth edges make it more easily playable. :)

Bonuses who are in relationship with GDP would be best.
Small countries with high GDP will be overpowered, but that will only make for better and more realistic gameplay.

Pretty sure the word you're looking for is Endonym, not autonym...

Both words mean the same.

I can probably do this, but It may be a bit troublesome for places that don't use Latin-based alphabets. I'd have to look into it more later, but that's the first thought that comes to mind.

A transliteration for the non-Latin alphabet sites. But Cologne really bothers me for example - it's Köln, not some Colog.

It is my understanding that "Autonym" refers to a persons real name, as opposed to a psuedonym, while an Endonym refers to the name a group of people give to themselves or their homeland, as opposed to an Exonym; The name outsiders give to said group of people or their homeland.

They are similar, but not exactly the same, and Endonym is more proper in this case.

I can transliterate stuff, but IMO it's subomptimal. Most people on wl, including myself, speak english and are familiar with english names.

Most Transliteration, Especially from arabic, but also to a lesser extent from cyrillic and hebrew, return names that are pretty unrecognizable to any native english speaker. Just some examples:

Москва́ = Moskvá (Moscow)
دمشق = dmshq (Damascus)
القاهرة = alqahrة (Cairo)
תל אביב-יפו = tl abib-ifv(Tel Aviv)
القُدس = alqُds(Jerusalem)
יְרוּשָׁלַיִם = iְrvּshָׁlַiִms(Jerusalem Again)

And then there are the ones where they transliterate literally into the english names everyone knows, and then I just wasted some time transliterating it.

Астана - Astana
Улаанбаатар - Ulaanbaatar

Luxor is the largest city in the region, which is what all the territories on the map are named after. For example, London doesn't make up very much of the land area of the southern portion of england named london, but it is the most populous city in that portion.

The case with Luxor is doubly confusing since there is also a region of egypt called luxor, which is also named after the city. The territory on my map is named after the city however, not the region.

I think using a ranking system for GDP/Population could have promise. You could use any metric really. For instance, without looking at localities, the top 10 GDP's in the world make 12 apt, 10-20 make, 10, or something. That way, there isn't as bad a disparity between Togo and the USA. For localities, just make the ranges larger

I just finished redoing the values based on nominal GDP and it only took around 5 days lol. I've already completely redone the bonus values for the map 3 times and each cost me a whole bunch of time, so I doubt I'll be doing that again anytime soon.

Like I said though, I'm finally back to development after all that time doing bonus values, and I'm expecting the map to have around 1000-1700 territories when I finish, which is really exciting imo. I'm working on integrating some of the changes zephyrum and ox suggested, although I only have redone romania and poland so far. They both gave me long, long lists, and I'll try to do all of them, although some are a bit unrealistic.

Romania and the bonuses still look the same to me on the map. Didn't you update it?

Really curious to see how it'll work out. Always wanted a bigger, better WN2014 and this one is much more visually pleasing in terms of colors, country borders and regional distribution.

Another thing, though; Are you considering making disputed territories of all sorts (Kosovo/Crimea/Western Sahara/Donetsk/Luhansk?/others) with a new color such as black or white?

Are you looking at the new version here?

https://www.warlight.net/Play?PreviewMap=53200

I did post this link before, but I guess it got lost. I'll update the OP with it to clear up any confusion.

I probably will make the disputed stuff a different color, but like I said I was just sick of redoing stuff last night :) I've still got a whole bunch of changes to make.

From all of what I've seen of this map it is looking great! I probably guess you already have put days of extensive energy in this. Making huge maps take loads of time. Making a huge diplomacy map takes forever to make, believe me. All these quick changes and modifiying the bonus links are all time-consuming, aren't they? I also want to inform you but if you keep creating new bonusses in your map developper tool then your browser will slown down step by step. If the number of bonusses on a map approaches 800 it might have a good chance of your browser freezing. I've had a trick for this.

I wouldn't even mind to say this but I feel more comfortable with this map than with my own huge diplomatical world map. This geopoltical earth tends to be more realistic and balanced and that's what we all want to have right? Keep this up Imperator. If this is going to be published then this is going to be your best rated map ever by far!

.. at least if it doesn't get rejected

This is definitely my biggest project so far, so thanks for the encouragement :) I did just do a 2300 territory map, which was pretty both big and bonus heavy, but in perspective, it only had about 550 bonuses. I'm planning to do close to three times that, so I can only imagine the lag lol.

I am being VERY careful to do everything as compliant to the rules as I possibly can. I can't even fathom how much it would suck to have this rejected after I get done with it...

You mentioned that you won't change the shape of the central territory in Poland as it would be difficult to determine it's value... but hey, you could do that, actually. Put the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship in Warsaw rather than in Gdansk, adjust the values accordingly and voila!

(seriously though, this shape really does bug me...)

It turns out it's "Szczecin" in polish. I've actually had problems with this name for every single map I've made with poland on it.

When I'm naming territories, I normally click the territory and then go to my tab with the name in it. Then I really quickly memorize the name and go back into my map designer and type it in as fast as I can. "Szczecin" has always given me trouble. In my head, the "szczec" syllable just completely blows my mind, and unless I actually remember the sequence of letters, I end up putting something like "Sezecin" or as I did on this map "Szecezin".

^^ I bet you're not the only one.

That reminds me that I should write a guide to Polish pronunciation on the OT forum, as even the basics are very different from most languages' standards.
