It's not Fizzer's choice at this point. This site lost Google Ads- aka its main revenue stream- because of people abusing inline images. So there's restrictions now.

I don't think it's entirely necessary to have pictures be completely disallowed except for members. I've never seen ads get pulled from other sites I frequent because of images posted by members. Sadly, it was not because those sites had a more mature member-base than here, but simply because there was a larger moderation team which was a lot more heavy-handed. Roughly 50% of this sites forum posters would have been permbanned from those sites by now.

Short of using a completely different forum setup though, and having a team of moderators who can edit/delete posts, and ban users (at least from the forum if not ingame) though I think this is the best solution as if a member posts something inappropriate they can be banned. If a normal user posts something inappropriate they can also be banned, but they can make another account for free in a manner of minutes to sidestep the ban, as opposed to losing the money they spent on their member account when they receive the ban.

It's not like losing zero-click may-mays and now having one-click may-mays is a huge loss...

He could have removed them completely, at least members can still do it. If you're desperate to have an image in the forums just ask a member to do it for you, or just post the link.

And as Bane just proved, even Members shouldn't be allowed to post pictures...

A picture of someone digging their own grave hardly seems like the type of thing anyone at google is going to take offense at.

Plus Bane is easier to handle than people like Ion.

But what if he did post porn, then what?

It's safer to just remove the whole thing.

Plus what if he went back and edited it to a picture of donkey sex and noboby went back to check, what then?

I don't know about you, but I don't view forum images as a key factor of warlight. In fact, I couldn't care less. If you're not a member you only contribute through ads. So dry your eyes, play the game, move on.
