How about reverse google search ?

When someone posts a link, a server retrieves the image. The image is uploaded into Google Image Search. A special parser looks at the tags or site description to find if it is sexual content.

The solution is perfect.

Because Fizzer is, day after day, becoming more of a joke.

Maybe you should boycott the forums, Zephyrum, since you see its administrator as such a problem. Show 'em who's boss. Vote with your feet. Better yet, start your own forum. I'm sure everyone will flock to join you.

@platinum what does being a strategic player have to do with this thread?

The trouble is proper moderation abilities require a fair amount of development to the boards. It isn't easy to just say give player x N powers. The powers may not exist at all, or as kynte said you have to be very careful with who you give powers to. There has to be some way to keep mods accountable. My suggestion is to create a report/trash/etc forum hidden to all but mods/admins that a mod could move a thread (ideally just a post) to. That way nothing is lost (Fizzer could easily undo it), but would allow for the general public not to see inappropriate content.

Other tools could be developed as needed over time, but a one way move for current mods would suffice to prevent legal issues while also keeping some transparency. That way mods don't go on a power trip without Fizzer knowing.

Honestly, I think forum software is a solved problem. Fizzer doesn't have to re-invent the wheel. There are several good forum packages out there, all free, AFAIK. Again, use other healthy forums as guidelines. BTW, I was going to suggest a hidden forum or hidden post state as well, but you and others have beat me to it. You can also have different levels of moderators. Again, there are tons of good forums out there that handle stuff like this all the time, on a volunteer basis. It's really a doable thing, IMHO.

blacklisting Zephyrum
That's ridiculous beyond belief. You can disagree with him civilly on his opinion of Fizzer, but to blacklist him for sharing this opinion is tyrannical at best.
Umm, no, it's not. His blacklist only applies to his account. He's not imposing his blacklist on others. *That* would be approaching 'tyranny'.

Personally, I rarely blacklist or put people on an ignore list, but I have no objection when others choose to do so. They have a right to choose what they are willing to pay attention to.

When you publicly declare you're going to blacklist someone it effects the community's view of that person. I don't want Zeph to be falsely impugned for sharing his opinion. There's no debate here for you to start, although I know you're dying for one wct. Don't blacklist him for superfluous reasons is all I was saying and I think many people can agree that that would be an overreaction.

Some of the best options, such as vBulletin, are indeed, not free. Those that aren't free typically are however rather affordable IMO.

I'm just going to say three things.
1. I didn't post anything inappropriate, at least that I can remember. If you've got a truthful time I did, I'm all ears.
2. Just because you are better at this doesn't automatically make others non-players of the game. You call people like me non-players but I'm in 18 games, 7 strategy, 4 discussions and 11 diplo.
3. This game wouldn't exist without Fizzer.
EDIT: How about we focus on getting inline images back, instead of blaming. How about we all (looking at you lolicon) behave. (and make it much harder to make alts).

... Padme Hentaimala

Who called you a non-player? iirc, I used you as an example of an actual player who'd been involved in this stuff to point out that it's not just Tyrion-style people.

+1 on the getting images back (let's get ads back first!)

@Omniscient: I heard from a Pittsburgh startup (Expii) that there's some really fancy/high-tech Node-based forum software. That's probably open-source.

Lol; an enforcement mechanism that works against actual players would still work for that case.

Here's an idea:
1. E-mails can only be used once.
2. E-mails require confimation.
3. One IP address can't have more than say, five accounts.

Remember back in the good-ol'-days when you could just tell people not to do something, and they wouldn't do it?

Because I don't.

EDIT: I would inline a picture here, but I can't since people are idiots and abused the inline.

Was probably your parents or grandparents generation. Kids used to get the spoon/belt/whip when they did shit they were told not to. They learned quick, unlike the coddled pissants of today.

Not sure if serious or can't post Fry picture.

(I did get smacked a bit as a kid, and I can accept things aren't to be abused, although its taken years)

First off, I will say that these changes have been needed for a long time. The forums on warlight have become a joke; hopefully this is a step in the right direction towards changing that. I wish this had been done a long time ago. But it has been done now, and that is the important thing.

It's really a shame that Google decided to withdraw their ads. Hopefully they see the changes Fizzer has made and will reconsider.

I don't understand all the hating on Fizzer. Sure, I don't like/agree with everything he does. However, you can't please everyone no matter what you do. There's a lot of potential improvements to warlight, and Fizzer is only one person. Even with Mercer, there's still a lot they simply don't have time to do. Despite the many things you may disagree with Fizzer on, remember that he made this game, and he is doing his best to make it enjoyable for as many people as possible. Without Fizzer, warlight would not even exist and you wouldn't be able to complain about him. It's amazing how far warlight has come over the past 4 years. Thanks Fizzer, for making this great game, and continuing to spend time on improving it, even when you know people will complain about every single update you do.
