Not sure I care much that we switched. I will get used to them shortly. But, in the last live stream Fizzer said he did not want to put Attack Only on the 3v3 ladder because he wanted the game simpler and easier for a new player to pick up.

First, that isn't a reason not to put a feature on a ladder (it does have a rating system, which means new people will be matched up with other people who never use the attack only feature).

Second, I am not sure these cards make it easier to know what a card does. Recon vs Surv are not intuitive just by the picture. If you wanted to do that, why not show a picture of a highlighted bonus for one, and a cluster of territories for the other? Instead of cartoons, why not just show the in game animations instead?

Anyway, if animations ARE the way to go, I also don't get the Emergency Blockade picture. A guy running from a tank does not hint at what the card actually does. The picture implies that you are simply giving up ground, when in reality you are making the ground harder to take. It should be a guy running from a fortification built or something. Or he's dropping land mines behind him. You get the picture.

I also think sanctions could be more obvious. What if you add some sort of naval card later? This doesn't really depict sanctions. If it did, you'd see the battleship blocking a transport from a port or something.

Order delay implies laziness. I'd rather see a leader with his hand up as with his troops hiding behind a wall if to suggest "hold your fire". I mean the point of a delay is to get defensive advantage. That picture does not depict that at all.

Order priority should be an attack on guys sleeping or something (or being outflanked). Again, that picture just shows some order, but nothing to suggest priority, just excitement over the order.

Blockade suggested the area is still under control (it has a tank and soldier standing there), whereas in the game the area is given up. There I would prefer to see some sort of barrier/obstacle rather than an active patrol. It could be the same barrier as the abandon, but in Emerg Block there the barrier is being done in a hurry (a guy running).


Anyway, I really don't care if we have these new cards, I'll adjust. But why did Fizzer not seek input from some of us on the content of the images? Someone put a lot of work into those, but I am not sure they actually depict the game actions well. Perhaps they were done by someone who has not even played the game at all (just some random graphic artist?).

Picking up the game and playing in the ladders are two different things though.

Wow great work, Kain, I really like them, though I prefer the entire word like 'blockade' instead of just 'Blo', otherwise they're fantastic!

I will put your idea on my original post, so more people can see it.

Sorry, but i dont like the new cards. I thougt it was a bug. You could hold the old ones easier apart. The desing from the older cards was appealing. The new one is childlike. I hope the cards will be changed in the new updated.

The biggest issue with the new cards is the unchanging color palette. You can't tell what they do at a quick glance - you have to either interpret the artwork, or read the title below the card.

But it should not be technically impossible to allow each player to upload its "own" card miniatures. That way everybody would be happy.

What even are these things? They've gotta be some sort of joke, right? The cards before looked fine.

It's almost impossible now to tell what card is what at a glance compared to before, at least chose pictures that are colour coded somehow.

I also prefer the old cards. They were more functional - they loaded more quickly and were easier to tell apart.

WTH is WarZone that someone even bothered to edit a wikipedia page to say "WarLight, an online game due to be renamed as WarZone in the near future"? The only thing google finds is Warzone 2100 which does not seem to be of any relevance?

P.S. to be on topic, one more voice against new cards and for making them optional/configurable. Make it one more setting on the settings page, and most novice players won't even find it for some time (so if the goal is to satisfy new players it is achieved) while old players will be happier.

Kain,

Those are beautiful!

I really like them.

As someone suggested, the bottom of the card could show the setting of the card (e.g. percentage for Sanctions, how many turns Diplomacy lasts, how many armies a Reinforcement card gives, etc).
