Scotland is a state. It's just not a sovereign state. It's a constituent state. Also, it would definitely have the interests of the Scottish people at heart if it were an independent country. It would just also care about the immigrants and refugees living inside of it as well, and would welcome foreign workers, unlike what some people believe.

Historically German? All the land Poland has today was owned by them at some point in the past. If you consider parts of Poland historically German, then I consider parts of Lithuania, Belarus, Ukraine, Latvia, Estonia, Moldova, Romania and Russia historically Polish. Though I'd really be satisfied with just Wilno, Brześć and Lwów. Not much, is it? :P

My point is exactly what you wrote : we shouldn't care that much about the past, but look forward to the future. Except that's the point where you're contradicting yourself, because if we shouldn't care about the past, why would Germany get back the land they owned in the past? What matters is the future and you were the one to say it.

Also, the choice of Russia as ally in the region is completely arbitrary. Russia is one of the states with most crimes committed by the government. The tsars, the bolsheviks and co. Now it's not as bad as it used to, but Putin is still one of the worst people in Europe at the moment.

I see a future in which Europe lives in peace and harmony and each nation develops independently its culture free from external influences and federalism of any kind.

The Israel/Palestine topic is a result of a number of promises that people have failed to keep:

1) The Brits promised a Hashemite Kingdom would exist, following the Great War. They did this, by creating Hejaz
2) The Brits promised a Palestinian state to exist. They would give them the land of Palestine, and Transjordan.

After Hejaz was conquered by the Saudis, the Brits gave the Hashemite people Transjordan, leaving Palestine with only the land of Palestine proper.

Following the Second World War, as a half-arsed attempt at making an apology for the Holocaust, the Allies promised a Jewish state. Naturally, they gave the Jews their "holy land" (Whether God gave them that land or not is debatable, but faith is weak, and if breaking a promise for the sake of something that may or may not be true is justified, please explain why). The Palestinians didn't like this. They thought "Hey guys, you already took Transjordan from us. Can we at least have Palestine proper?" to which the Brits replied "No. They're taking half of your homeland whether you like it or not." People use the excuse of "at least give them SOME of their land!" when Israel really had no right to saunter in, and demand land that the Palestinians had been promised for DECADES. The Palestinians fought for their land, sometimes with allies, but it was like a fight between a bug and a windshield, and the Palestinians got humiliated.

Regardless, Palestine is independent. How is it not? It's a functioning country, with set territory (some of which is being occupied illegally), and everything every other country has. People just say it doesn't exist, because it doesn't think that the country that took its land from it exists. You can kid yourself that Palestine isn't independent, but it's more independent than a lot of countries are.
