The issue here is not as small as a bunch of mentally-challenged trolls.
The average human is steadily becoming more ignorant.
Find a solution to combat the lack of awareness and depth of thought that the simple-minded masses exhibit and you'll find the forums suddenly getting much more interesting.
The forums have always had trolls, that is a facet of human nature that would take quite a bit of doing to erase. But, in the past, the trolls had something that today they no longer possess.
Wit.
Observe the mindless fools, spending long hours of shit-posting on a forum.

These are constants of the internet.
The forums are likely not going to get any better and may well deteriorate even further.
Can we do anything about it? Not really. Just watch the ebb and flow and try to learn to let go.
