I suppose that when they start with team game, and they loose because some moron form their team got booted (which happens more than often especially in "open games") the may feel discouraged, epcecially when the situation repats. And in FFA's and 1v1 thay got eleiminated quickly due to lack of experience....

Because they did not enjoy their experiences enough to continue playing (whether due to outside circumstance, inexperience, or they simply do not like to play the game). Or at least that they did not enjoy it enough to remember it against alternate means of spending time. Certainly isn't for everyone.

There should be written: "Play singleplayer first" on front page in big red letters ;)

Single player would turn people away, at least I find it horribly boring.

maybe fizzer should prepeare some (more than now) fancy-pancy single player scenarios which would be more interesting than present (better maps used!!! new templates) and will adhere new players for a bit longer... eventually encouraging them to try multi....

I don't consider single player boring. When I spent two evenings challenging Europe, I was not bored for single one second :D Remember that when you have no clue what and when and there is nobody who can advise you, every turn is excitement. It gave me basic understanding on how Warlight works. Without that, I would maybe leave MP after several games, too.
This game looks straightforward at first sight, but it is not. IMO a lot of people will leave cause they are thinking that this is some bullshit, when anything they try do not work seemingly. Anyway, not a pity. These folks lacks warrior mentality anyway ;)

never said actual singl-player missios are boring. Yet it is strange why so many beautifull maps are not used there... also there shouldnt be a problem to add few more "missions".. ?

Awesome!
I tried to let my friends to play this.
They just opened, saw some things and said „what a boring thing...“
Then I said that they just didn't understand it,that they should try it for more time and remember to play it once a day at least
They said „No....“
And I stopped.
Its better with friends, but they just don't want to see what awesome game this is!

You guys are wrong, most cases people join and Frizzer doesn't cater in easing the learning curve. They don't know about how cards work and move order etc. The tutorial needs to improve to help prepare them for team games as well as better means to learn to play.

I introduced my one friend to warlight and we played 2 games together. He wasn't bad but he hasn't touched warlight since. He gave some feedback.

  • He really liked Warlight, it had an old school and is a game you can play to quickly pass time.
  • He had no idea how to find me, the problem is that there are so many tricks that we take for granted as players who have been here for a while. He didn't know about how to start a chat game etc. how to find and challenge someone.
  • He didn't know how cards and orders work, this isn't properly done in the tutorial. When teamgames come noobs are confused about what they supposed to be doing.
  • Some don't know how to surrender, simple Warlight etiquette such as surrendering instead of getting booted, voting to end etc.

A lot of you shrug noobs off as idiots but most cases they want to play(they wouldn't make an account if they didn't have some interest). They just aren't glued up in warlight and warlight doesn't cater for newcomers effectively

    +1 Nogals

Though from what I have seen from fizzer, it seems as if thats his priority now. Which I think should be good for warlight and his wallet.

When I started I wished that there were auto-generated open games with only level 10 and under; kind of a "kiddie pool", if you will. I think this is especially true for folks who are coming to this on their own and not playing with friends. They sign up, click on an open game 1v1, get paired against a level 50+ player, get creamed, go away and never come back; I'm sure this happens fairly often.

It would also create something to aspire to; get to level 11 and you can start trying to run with the big dogs!

That idea is good in a sense, but I think that would give an incentive for dicks to create a crap ton of alts just to deter newbies from staying.

I've tried hundreds of games and decided I didn't like them after playing one or two times. No matter how good the tutorials are, or how much he caters to newbies, there will still only be a small percentage of players who play once or twice and continue to keep playing.

No game is for everyone, and these days it seems everyone tries out almost all games once or twice. I don't think it's a big deal that people come and go, as long as there is a big enough player base to keep it going for those that want to continue.

Even the best games in the world have people come and go :)

WL requires thinking , and other games , such as CoD , Minecraft , etc. Have made kids think less. WL is old-school and requires high-level thought. I am outraged that other games have made kids dumb. Also , kids have short attention spans.

Many top players are aged 13.

There are many successful kids , these are mature ppl. The others are incompetent Idiots who have an IQ of 0 and 0 brain cells.

Why people stop playing Warlight after 3 games?
Why people stop watching GOT after 3 episodes?
Why people stop reading "Dune" after 1 book?
Why people stop eating new kind of pizza in pizzeria after trying it once?

I think it really just boils down to not liking it. Boring simple-player, hard opponents, not-super-perfect tutorial, aren't real problems IMO. Although
