You've probably all heard about it.

my new map : https://www.warlight.net/Map/21733-Competitive-Diplomacy-Europe-AD-1912

The competitive diplomacy is a diplomacy gameplay which allows only 1 player to win. Feel free to check it out.

tournament link: https://www.warlight.net/MultiPlayer/Tournament?ID=16379

What are your thoughts? Is this a good idea? Should more maps have the the competitive diplomacy gameplay?

Ideal map for roleplay clan fights? Disadvantages?

Comment below. (please don't forget to participate to the tournament if interested)

It's an interesting concept, but it isn't really a Diplomacy. Its an FFA where making alliances is encouraged, contrary to most FFA's where it is discouraged. I don't count it as a diplomacy, though it is an interesting concept.

It's based on the game Diplomacy, and seems pretty close to it, so by that rationale, it's a diplomacy style game, even if the style isn't the same as a typical Warlight diplo game. Looks interesting.

I played it and while some people treated it as a pure FFA these people lost. The game really encourages diplomacy and rewards those who can predict their opponents the best. Makes sense that it's inspired by a board game, because it feels a lot like it.

I've not played this, but I really like Diplo-FFA hybrid type games, so I would probably enjoy this a lot. It's the kind of thinking I try and encourage in my Diplos and FFAs. Most players don't understand until they are very experienced that there isn't really much difference if you're playing them properly.

@Fleecemaster

I can sense your feeling too. I had one of those early diplomacy games back in the day on this map : https://www.warlight.net/Map/1401-Diplomacy but sadly people played it wrongly and quickly downgraded it as a 'bad' map even though it had a great potential. 2 years later it inspired me to develop this map. The same concept but with added rules so no one will be confused , added templates in the description and the level it unlocks set to 55, making it exclusively for expierenced players.

How is 'Competitive Diplomacy' different from DIPLO?

DIPLO = FFA with PM
FFA traditinal = no chat
RP = DIPLO in characther

Belgian Gentleman,

I like the idea of recreating Diplomacy in Warlight. However, while your map is very nice, I feel it's lacking some important features of Diplomacy.

A big one is fleets vs. armies. I think that without the distinction, this map will have quite a few rather odd features, and its strategy will be so radically different as to be unrecognizable (for instance, leaving most of your units in the sea most of the time, "ports" no longer being important, and so on).

It occurs to me that it would be possible to recreate Diplomacy almost exactly using the following settings:

* Set neutrals to 0. Set base armies per turn to 0.
* Each player starts in each Supply Center with 100 armies.
* Local deployments are enabled.
* An army cap of 1 is in effect (this means that you cannot produce more armies than you have Supply Centres).
* The Offensive kill percentage is lowered to 50%. (You cannot win a fight by attacking a defended Supply Centre, unless two or more armies work together.)
* No-split mode is enabled.
* Light fog (or no fog).

And, most importantly:

* A player is pronounced a winner when they exceed 50% of the available income on the map (if using the standard Diplomacy map, this would be 1700 armies).

This sounds very interesting, and potentially a lot of fun. If you're interested in playing, I might set up a game like this in the near future!

However, since we cannot differentiate between fleets and armies, I think that I wouldn't use the standard Europe map for this game - I'd pick a different map, whatever I can find with clear "Supply Centres" (cities, forts, etc).

Oxymoron (ŏk′sē-môr′ŏn′) n. - A rhetorical figure in which incongruous or contradictory terms are combined.

Isn't "Competitive Diplomacy" an oxymoron?
If so, wouldn't "Competitive Diplomacy" players be oxy-morons?

No, it's the people who decided Warlight diplomacy games should be non-competitive who got confused. Diplomacy always was and remains a competitive game!

Although small maps make me feel confined. Maybe make a slightly bigger map for another scenario.

A very good idea though.
