i'd like to make an experiment to help new players understand how different players of different ratings expand when given a particular scenario
for this,i'll put up a particular custom distribution on various templates, and the players will expand as they like for a set number of turns
this scenario is for players rated 0 to 2600
and the divisions will be players from a range of 100 each, like 1-100,101-200,....2501-2600
i'll need volunteers for this
requirements are:-
you must not be an alt
your rating(RT laddder or 1v1 laddder) should be consistent in the past few weeks or more
message me if you'd like to volunteer
i'll make the first game next week

Is seasonal acceptable as well? (I don't play RT or the 1v1 ladder presently)

Is there no opponent? Best picks aren't necessarily the picks that give best expansion options. If it's only about expansion the behaviour changes a lot (for me at least)

without opponent
there are many factors that come into play if we consider an opponent started nearby

I'm not in the ladder as you need to be level 48 but I would be able to show what fairly new players do for expansions. Although I don't mind if you just want rated players.

count me in that sounds like fun
although I'm an accountant type of player...
and it heavily depends on the map what kind of expansion I choose

I'm at level 27... so what Lord of Turnips said, except multiplied by a factor of two.

Plus I'm quite noobish... :-/

That said, as long as it is not a ranked game,
I'll be glad to show what I know. :)

You might want to group players who have read the game guides available on the forums / in clans versus those who haven't.

(I've read a little of one guide, studied none of it...
so I would say that I am not a scholar.)

Expansion strategies will be largely similar at high ratings, at the top level its usually picking strategy that set the best from the very best, imo.

With rating inflation and ladder changes over the years, I doubt there is a huge difference between 2200 players and 2400 players. Not sure where you'll find any 2400+ or 800- players.

expansion strategy is always heavily influenced by where the opponent is and how many armies we have to spare for expansion. you want to expand in a way that will give you positional or stack advantage. never just pure income advantage.

I'll try, though I've only just recently finished my 20 games for a rating, so I don't know how stable my rating is.

I wil try (if 50 points different is consistent. I looked and see I have all the time been between 1100 and 1200.

When no opponent's in the game, I think anybody at almost any rating could find the optimal expansion strategy or a good enough approximation of it. So my bet would be that there's not that much different among the different ratings, except for the very low - but maybe I'm too optimistic :P

Even though my rating is not consistent, I will represent the 1400s, although my general rating pattern is up, and if I do not play the ladder for like 2 weeks, I will be in the 1500s, so I maybe I can represent 1500-1600, and someone more consistent can represent 1400-1500.

What is a "stack advantage" as it applies to expansion armies?

Is that where my expanding armies and territories are close enough to each other to help counter my opponent when I find them?
