I made a vastly expanded map based on World Nations, but I forgot to make bonus links in inkscape, and decided I didn't want to go through and do all of that, so the project was scrapped. take a look: https://www.warlight.net/SinglePlayer?PreviewMap=35358

If there is a real demand for me to post this map then I will. what do you guys think about it?

There are several maps with one territory one bonus and some are of the world. Also, Belgian Gentleman is working on a super massive diplomacy world map which probably makes most of this thread pointless. Somaliland, Artsakh and ISIS are not recognized with the only one being a little recognized is Artsakh with 3 non-UN countries recognizing it. You may as well call Catalonia and Scotland independent even though they are clearly not.

There are so many folk always telling me that countries aren't independent since they've no recognition. You can be shunned from a community, but you still exist. It's not the same with Catalunya and Scotland at all. There, you are taxed by London and Madrid. In Abkhazia, you are not taxed by Tbilisi, you are taxed by Sukhumi. In ISIS, you don't pay taxes to Bagdad, nor Dimashq, you work for base#1 (wherever that is).

By your grounding, Armenia, both Chinas, Turkey, all those do not exist since they are not internationally recognised. Taiwan actually has very little UN recognition (10.9%).

Also, contrary to popular belief, Poland can into space, too. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mirosław_Hermaszewski

Thinking that a countries independence is determined by who they pay taxes to is ridiculous. The UN recognition makes most sense- the UN is internationally recognised and basically defines independent. Also, I do not think Taiwan counts as an independent country- rather they are like Palestine is a state between independent and not. Also, Armenia, Turkey and People's China all have recognition from the large countries so they are independent.

Basically a map with only sovereign countries. Most people don't look at actual control.

Your argument is rather circular here. The UN recognition makes the most sense, since everyone recognises the UN, so the UN recognition is the most credible. There is not unanimous UN recognition on Armenia nor Chinas. But like it or not, Armenia is not part of Azerbaijan, Mongolia is not part of Taiwan, and Chinese Taipei does not exist. It's more important to draw maps how they are rather than how we want them to be.
