Trump hopes to build a huge wall to compensate for his much smaller pet poodle.

America dropped more bombs over Vietnam than they dropped in all of world war 2.

Well, no wonder, World War 2 was 3.5 years long for America while Vietnam war was 16 years longer and far less successful for American policy.

Europe, we are the monster you have created. And we have learned well. The golden age of Europe is coming to an end and with it Rome itself. The next 85 years will be determined by the actions of so few, and so very many. You are not included on the list of those who's actions matter. Toodle loo chaps!

Golden Age of Europe? I assume you mean Europe west of USSR, well, Europe does not matter as much as it did, but this is nothing new - Europe's politic status has roughly kept the same since the 1950s or 60s. Roma is not where Europe's heart is, Berlin is. European civilisation didn't begin in Roma, either, it began in Kriti. The EU's actions are going to matter, how much tolerance they can bear from American restrictive global policies before removing suzerainty. And not as a whole, Germany, Britain, France, Italy and Turkey would be foolishly listed as "countries that don't matter". Until further notice (hundredcounts from now, perhaps), polities are going to be ruled by few. Not by many.

Especially your last phrase, are you just trying to get Dark Night tear you apart? Let me rewrite your comment, I think you'll like this version better.

America, the temporary monster made by Europeans. They have reached the top, shortly, but it won't be long. America's hegemony is coming to an end and with it Washington itself. The next 85 years will be determined by the actions of so few, and so very many. You are not included on the list of those who's actions matter. Toodle loo chaps!

Heh, I remember that Austriahungarian pistol.

According to a series of websites that I've never heard of, America dropped 2.5 million tonnes of bombs during world war 2, the combined total form both the European and Asian theatres. They dropped 7 million tonnes of bombs during the Vietnam war (including many in Laos and Cambodia along the Ho Chi Minh trial).

The length of the war does not explain this amount of bombing. The Vietnam war occurred over an area a fraction of the size of that involved in WW2 and resulted in much fewer casualties (still huge though).

America went all out against Vietnam, they lost because the Vietcong knew the land, the people and were far more determined.

Personally, i think what we really should've done is simply gone and attacked China and Russia immediately after WW2.

The only person who even considered doing that was Churchill, but he called the idea Operation Unthinkable for a reason.

Edit: Curses. FalconGuy beat me to the punch.

Would be nice to have statistics on this, and the length does explain it fully.

2.5 m tonnes over 3.5 years, roughly 0.7 tonnes per year (while being helped by several other powerful countries).

7 m tonnes over 19.5 years, that's roughly 0.4 tones per year (while receiving little help).

0.7 million tonnes a year spread over all of France, Germany, BeNeLux, Italy, Japan, the Pacific, Indonesia, Malaysia, Indochina and China. 0.4 million tonnes a year over just the Eastern half of Indochina is a huge escalation in bombings.

Again, link is nice. And when America was going full out, I don't doubt you, but the world population in 1941 was 2.5 thousand million, by 1975, it was 4 thousand million, you have to account for that, too.

Yes, bombing Vietnam is counter-productive since you can't see who you are killing so you inevitably turn the people against you and seal your own fate.

It's always interesting to see the difference in people's attitudes regarding the Vietnam war compared to the Korean War. Both featured the United States launching a military invasion to prop up a Capitalist faction against a Communist faction.

The Korean War is generally looked on favorably or ignored, presumably because the U.S won. (Sorta, South Korea still exists after all.) Meanwhile Vietnam War is hated because the U.S caused a bunch of damage and casualties while accomplishing nothing.
