Actually, I think Holmes was in hiding because every crimelord knew him and it would be best to lure them into false security sense. (And I think the book says this).

True. But many sources indicate that The Final Problem was a way to kill the series. A final fight between the forces of good and evil. Professor Morierty was the antithesis of Holmes. Sherlock said it will be his greatest foe.

draugr are, first of all, plural. second of all, i know from experience that they are very hostile.

Draugrs in Nordic mythos are very peaceful. But I believe they are territorial? Just leave them alone. Nords had to pay many respects to their dead and follow many rituals to ensure they would not return as Draugr, and if they did then the Draugr would be peaceful unless disturbed.
