I don't think WG has rivalries.

I guess you could say apex and GG (and in the past WM) but only because we compete for the top spot in the clan league every year with them and also for top ladder spots often. But I don't have any ill will towards their members. It is a friendly competition for sure.

^ Wouldn't that be a proper "rivalry" then? You're actually competing against each other and using each other to benchmark your own skill level/progress.

Perhaps you're just the first person to offer a good answer to this question. In any case, it's a bit bothersome when "rivalry" on this site is used to refer to badmouthing each other without competing or growing in any way.

I'd say CORP's rivals, as far as the actual game goes, are {Olympus} and FBG. We have many games with both of these clans, many {Olympus} players play in our tournaments, and we all strive to become better players.

I don't think it's serious enough to be a rivalry yet. FBG was/is just prepping for Clan League with CORP- not enough history there (plus I don't know how even the results have been so far)- but Olympus comes pretty close. I'd say CORP will probably have some sort of solid rivalry coming out of CL7, but so far it hasn't been competing with other clans for any sort of external recognition.

I don't know. I always thought of a rivalry meaning you generally dislike the other group.

Like my Red Wings against the Avs in the late 1990s/early 2000's. I am no soccer expert, but I would bet Brazil and Argentina are rivals, and generally dislike each other.

I don't see it that way with the top clans for the most part. Maybe you are right about the definition.


Perhaps rival is just someone who is consistently vying for the same thing. In this way it would be true.

I think if there is a healthy dislike, that is more of an ENEMY than a RIVAL.

Ironically enough, when I googled the terms, the definitons of "enmity" and "enemy" included the term "hostile" while "rivalry" and "rival" were just about "competing." I don't know what to think anymore.

Personally, I've always interpreted enmity as being marked by hostility and irrational opposition- e.g., blocking your opponent's ideas regardless of whether you agree with them. That said, I can't think of any examples of non-hostile rivalries off the top of my head (before you ask, I had to google the examples later in this sentence), but that might have something to do with hostile rivalries like Brazil-Argentina (association football) and India-Pakistan (cricket) getting a lot more coverage (and being a lot more interesting to follow) than friendlier ones like mid-90s Rockets-Bulls (basketball) and India-Australia (cricket).

Perhaps you could just call WG vs. GG and WG vs. apex something like "friendly competition." And perhaps Wolves vs. Falcons is a proper rivalry as they're competing for domination among a certain playerbase.

No, Hostile should come as Proper Noun like a place or name in first definition. :)


The origins of my name is that a hostile person dislikes everybody so conquers the world. Also, in many video games, bad guys are hostile and allies are called friendlies.

Also aggressive intentions. Hostile countries are those that like a war or an enemy for another country.

Haha India-Pakistan goes much further than a cricket rivalry.

^ Of course. I mean, the cricket rivalry itself intersects with the rest. BCCI refuses to have Indian teams play in Pakistan because of terrorism. But it's a good example of a very, very hostile rivalry, even when it's uneven (like in the 2015 World Cup).

Hey. I rooted for Afghanistan and Scotland. I'd be pretty damn happy if they became Test-playing nations, and I (like most cricket fans I know) hate ICC for how they're keeping the sport from expanding and instead making teams like Ireland work ten times as hard as their FIFA counterparts.

I know Timi would be in 1v1 and RT if he joined right now. We'd have close to 20 in the top 15 on those ladders if all where joined right now (with no additional games played to influence rating).

I think he's talking about across all major ladders- 1v1 and real-time. (Seasonal and 2v2 excluded because of their strategically questionable nature, I presume)
