but what makes them deserve any more respect in the fora, than someone from a clan without as many good strategic players?

[20] has done more for the community than the Falcons, Wolves, and Darklords combined. It is not just their skill in the game, it is their contributions to Warlight and their legacy.

Editing to the toxictity scale :

Most toxic on top

Open real-time 1m boot

Regular real-time

Custom scenario.

Multiday

Invited multi

Clan against itself.

Clan vs Clan FFA

Intraclan

Clan league

If it's a clan of lower toxity levels this not of your concern. Real-time is with the piss of others especially w/ 1m boot. People who host diplos at the high toxic levels are cheaters who want to level up and rack wins and update their templates to put you at a disadvantage. Clan levels are more fixed and depends how on a clans stabality

What makes an individual person from [20] deserve more respect in a general sense than someone from say Wolves? They are both human. They both have emotions. Insults are no different on either player. Not all humans are created equal, but they should be treated equally as far as general respect and kindness goes.

i don't mean to take away from the work that people do and i benefit from. i appreciate it greatly.

nevertheless to entirely dismiss a discussion with "diplos suck. fact." is not worthy of any respect or consideration. it is a broken record comment that is entirely pointless. i hold no idols. you don't get a free pass from me for being smarter or more hardworking in this one tiny area in my sight (warlight). i give extra respect for sure, but that doesn't mean i can't call someone out.

really, a comment like fridge's hurts his argument that strategic warlight is superior to diplomatic warlight. by stating his opinion as fact, and without any explanation of why it's true, i am more inclined to devalue his opinion.

This conversation is of interest to me, because diplomacy and competitive Warlight are both part of Warlight's future, and will need to learn to coexist. I'd like to share some thoughts; take them as you will:

First off, diplomacy and role-playing are always going to exist. Any strategic game with maps is going to inspire people to try to make games of this nature. Let's set aside any argument about how 'bad' or 'useless' they are, and instead, accept that they will continue to exist. So, to our competitive players that seem to hate diplomacy games -- FK, Fridge, others -- I invite them to stop trying to exterminate a phenomenon that will always be here. It is not a fight that should be fought.

Fizzer himself is not going to take sides on this, because, while competitive Warlight is likely going to earn him more money, diplomacy games and role-playing attract people to Warlight too, and he wants this game to have universal appeal. Since it is in our best interests as a community to attract new players and make them feel welcome, we do them a disservice if we bicker with each other.

Now, that said, I would like to talk with diplomacy advocates. Since competitive clans are here, and will always be here, it does not make sense to fight them on topics like this. Learn to coexist. There are some aspects of competitive psychology that you must consider:

A competitive player/clan has dedicated a considerable amount of time to perfecting their skill. A competitive clan looks at every player around it with the eye of an investor; is a player good in the community, skilled in combat and likely to improve etc.

Consider the above paragraph and now consider another thought: diplomacy games do absolutely nothing to help you learn skill in Warlight combat. Let's accept this as true, and not argue this point. So, to the eyes of a competitive player/clan, a person dedicated purely to diplomacy games is not likely to improve in skill and, therefore, not a good investment. Again, let's not debate whether this is true or morally correct; let us accept this as their world view. And this belief is only further reinforced when a competitive player meets a non-competitive player on the ladders; the competitive player will likely destroy the non-competitive player. If that is the only time a competitive player interacts with a non-competitive player, then that is the only thing the competitive player will remember about the other person.

Next point to consider: the clans currently most dedicated to diplomacy -- Falcons, Wolves, and others -- have done very poorly in the past few months in the forums, causing all kinds of nonsense and useless drama. Remember again, that if that is the only place a competitive player interacts with them, then that is what they will remember. Since these clans are dedicated to diplomacy, diplomacy therefore gains a bad reputation because of the clans who are known for it.

If we wish to reconcile the two worlds, then we must work to make both sides understand each other, and live together. Discuss.

not gonna lie I rage quit one of them and made it my goal to make it the most messed up diplo game ever! so because of that I intentionally went PE went ham on everyone around me for one turn, then put diplo cards on them all (btw I had about 20 of them). So I waited them out and forced them to denounce my title as PE. Aside from that one instance I have always played by the rules. From then on I have stuck strictly to smaller 1 v 1 or 2 v 2 games.

GODDAMMIT! CAN ANYONE ON THIS FORUM BE ORIGINAL FOR A CHANGE?!

I feel like my efforts to enthuse originality just go wasted because people keep copying me :(

What I think people must stop doing to ensure long lasting peace, and no more insults that would potentially escalate, is to not generalise. Some people come specifically onto threads discussing diplomacy, to downgrade it and say stuff such as "Diplomacy is not true Warlight. Let's play 1v1!" When what the person was looking for, was probably a discussion on how to improve diplomacy games, perhaps with good prereqs, or finding a community to play games with and get invites. Instead some people go out of their way to say "Diplomacy is bad then, and bad now. Fact" or something completely unrelated, just because they feel the need to do it.

Comparatively, I'm yet to see a thread about competitive, strategic gameplay where someone goes out of their way to say "Strategy is bad and useless. Set up a diplomacy game with me and my friends and we will have fun." Please link me a thread or two devoted to strategic discussion, where people, not favouring strategic gamely, come to downgrade it.

But ultimately, diplomacy players and strategic players must learn to coexist and learn more about them, to try and get the best of both worlds. This is what I have done, and after making a big effort to improve my strategy, I've seen it in a whole new light and find it very entertaining. You have to think about every move with lots of care. What should I do first? What card should I use, does this move need to be delayed? How can I expand most efficiently? When should I expand, or when should I try to play cat & mouse? For diplomacy, it is the thrill for me playing games throughout history, and in the future, and in alternate realms that is most fun. Especially when you get to know a community to play many games with, you can have laughs upon laughs with them and have lots of fun playing with them as well. ^_^
