Welcome to turn 0 of The Impaller versus The World, a game that everyone gets to participate in! For more information about the game, view this blog post.

Here's what we picked:

And here's what we got:

We got our 2nd, 3rd and 4th pick. We know for certain that The Impaller is in Central America.

Here are our options:

1.) Goal of this is to guarantee we take the bonus and leave an extra 1 in South America where we know we will likely meet Impaller soon. This also sets us up border all territories in West Russia.

Place 4 in South Pole (Antarctica) and 1 in Argentina (South America). Attack Siple (Antarctica) from Argentina (South America) with 4, leaving 1 in Argentina. Attack Scott (Antarctica) and Novolazerevskaya (Antarctica) from South Pole (Antarctica) with 4. Attack Arkangelsk (West Russia) from Murmansk (West Russia) with 4.

2.) This also sets us up border all territories in West Russia.

Place 5 in South Pole (Antarctica). Attack Scott (Antarctica), Siple (Antarctica) and Novolazerevskaya (Antarctica) from South Pole with 3 each. Attack Peru (South America) from Argentina (South America) with 4. Attack Arkangelsk (West Russia) from Murmansk (West Russia) with 4.Goal of this is to rely on our ~52% chance to take South Pole with three attacks of 3s and get a quick border with Impaller's likely bonus.

3.) Goal of this is to pressure Impaller's bonus on Turn 1 and set ourselves up to take either Antarctica or West Russia on subsequent turns.

Place 5 in Argentina (South America). Attack Peru (South America) with 9. Attack Scott (Antarctica) with 3, leaving 1 in South Pole (Antarctica). Attack Arkangelsk (West Russia) from Murmansk (West Russia) with 4.

4.) Goal of this is to rely on our ~52% chance to take Antarctica with three attacks of 3s and get a quick border with Impaller's likely bonus. Also, we ensure we have armies bordering Scandanavia in case Impaller moves down to Norway.

Place 5 in South Pole (Antarctica). Attack Scott (Antarctica), Siple (Antarctica) and Novolazerevskaya (Antarctica) from South Pole (Antarctica) with 3 each. Attack Peru (South America) from Argentina (South America) with 4.

5.) Goal of this is to rely on our ~52% chance to take Antarctica with three attacks of 3s and move into Brazil where we can hopefully surprise Impaller in Venezuela while also checking on West Africa. We set ourselves up for West Russia by bordering all territories in it.

Place 5 in South Pole (Antarctica). Attack Scott (Antarctica), Siple (Antarctica) and Novolazerevskaya (Antarctica) with 3 each from South Pole (Antarctica). Attack Brazil (South America) from Argentina (South America) with 4. Attack Arkangelsk (West Russia) from Murmansk with 4.

6.) Goal of this is to rely on our ~52% chance to take Antarctica with three attacks of 3s and gain a border with Impaller's likely bonus in Central America while leaving armies in Murmansk in case he moves down to Norway.

Place 5 in South Pole (Antarctica). Attack Scott (Antarctica), Siple (Antarctica) and Novolazerevskaya (Antarctica) from South Pole (Antarctica) with 3 each. Attack Peru (South America) from Argentina (South America) with 4.

7.) Goal of this is to pressure Impaller's Central America bonus while slowly moving towards full occupation of Antarctica and West Russia.

Place 5 in Argentina (South America). Attack Scott (Antarctica) from South Pole with 3, leaving 1 in South Pole. Attack Arkhangelsk (West Russia) from Murmansk (West Russia) with 4. Attack Peru (South America) from Argentina (South America) with 9.

8.) Goal of this is to guarantee a first turn bonus capture of Antarctica and move into position in West Russia to border all its territories.

Place 4 in South Pole (Antarctica) and 1 in Murmansk (West Russia). Attack Siple (Antarctica) from Argentina (South America) with 4. Attack Scott (Antarctica) and Novolazerevskaya (Antarctica) from South Pole with 4 each. Attack Arkangelsk (West Russia) from Murmansk (West Russia) with 5.

9.) Goal of this is to guarantee the capture of the Antarctica bonus while leaving an extra 1 in Argentina whose bonus border Impaller's Central America bonus. West Russia also gets set up by bordering all territories in it.

Place 4 in South Pole (Antarctica) and 1 in Argentina (South America). Attack Siple (Antarctica) from Argentina (South America) with 4. Attack Scott (Antarctica) and Novolazerevskaya (Antarctica) from South Pole with 4 each. Attack Arkangelsk (West Russia) from Murmansk (West Russia) with 4.

10.) Goal of this is to rely on the ~52% chance to take Antarctica with three attacks of 3s while guaranteeing a border with Central America. Also, this sets us up for West Russia by bordering all territories in it.

Place 2 in South Pole (Antarctica) and 3 in Argentina (South America). Attack Siple (Antarctica) from Argentina (South America) with 3. Attack Scott (Antarctica) and Novolazerevskaya (Antarctica) from South Pole (Antarctica) with 3 each. Attack Arkangelsk (West Russia) from Murmansk (West Russia) with 4. Attack Peru (South America) from Argentina (South America) with 4.

11.) The goal of this is to try and trick Impaller into thinking that we are heading into Peru by delaying a fake attack of 1 until the very last move. We also rely on the ~52% chance to take Antarctica on the turn and set ourselves up for West Russia, which also helps delay the fake attack from Argentina to Peru so that hopefully Impaller sees it. The next turn would likely see a full deployment to Brazil and an attack to Venezuela, which would anticipate Impaller defending Panama or attacking Peru, leaving us with a good chance to take Cuba.

Place 5 in South Pole (Antarctica). Attack Scott (Antarctica), Siple (Antarctica) and Novolazerevskaya (Antarctica) from South Pole with 3 each. Attack Brazil (South America) from Argentina (South America) with 3. Attack Arkangelsk (West Russia) from Murmansk (West Russia) with 4. Attack Peru (South America) from Argentina (South America) with 1.

12.) The goal of this is fast expansion. We rely on the ~52% chance for a first turn bonus of Antarctica and use the rest to try and get West Russia on the next turn. This temporarily ignores Impaller's presence in Central America.

Place 2 in South Pole (Antarctica) and 3 in Murmansk (West Russia). Attack Siple (Antarctica) from Argentina (South America) with 4. Attack Scott (Antarctica) and Novolazerevskaya (Antarctica) from South Pole (Antarctica) with 3 each. Attack Moscow (West Russia) from Murmansk (West Russia) with 3. Attack Arkangelsk (West Russia) from Murmansk (West Russia) with 4.

We definitely should not move the 5 in WR this turn. That way we won't miss our card piece in the event we meet Imp on the CA border and we have to deploy 100% to get the bust. Also if he is in Scan and comes South, he'll have to add armies there to avoid our taking out Norway. We also don't lose a turn on taking the bonus because it's still two turns even if we took Arkangelsk.

I also like going for the bonus 1st move (that's why we picked it). 52% ain't that bad. And attacking Peru to set up the bust on the 1 or 2 that will be left in Panama (since Imp presumably picked it first to try for the 1st round bonus too).

The description of this resembles #6, but there should be no attack on Arkangelsk. the "Place" language in #6 says there is a WR attack on Arkangelsk, but the "Goal" langauge in 6 says there isn't one.

It's a pretty traditional way to play. Troll gots some crazy schemes in this list, can't waiit to see what he comes up with when there are more viable good options.

The real bummer on this deployment would be if Imp gets the +3 and we don't 1st turn. Any other outcome and I like our position.

Duke,

You were referring to this one, I believe? I'm trying to find the contradiction to place a fix.

I like dukes option, if he is in scan i would rather a 5 sitting there than a 2-3, and i never even thought of the card piece, thanks for that one Duke.

Sorry Troll I got confused and thought the "Place" above went with the "Goal" below. that's exactly the one I was referring to.

My mistake.

I can't tell you how many times holding off on a gratuitous attack first turn in a bonus I'm not expecting to go for right away has saved me a card piece. Here there are better reasons to hold off (i.e. he might be in Scan), but it's a gnereal strategy I use whenever i think I might need all my income second turn to attack.

Hey T tell us which one you like, you obviously spent a lot of time thinking about it.

Are #4 and #6 the same?

That's also what I voted for. Any option where we're moving in West Russia at all is out.

Also, #11 is sort of madly clever. :D

Does the order of picks always go ABBAAB, where A is one player and B is the other player? I'm embarrassed I don't know the answer to this for sure. If it does always go in that order, then we know that Impaller doesn't know we're in South America.

Reading the rules makes it seem like ABBAAB is always the order. Given that, I'm a big fan of attacking Peru with 9.

I like taking Antarctica with 4s, setting us up for taking West Russia next turn and South America the turn after that. If we take Peru (really Colombia) and Venezuela at the same time, there's a chance that we can catch him defenseless in both Central America territories when we'll have an income of 16 to hit it with.

Lots of varied opinions here!

id put 3 in west russia and 2 in antarctica. first move attack scandanavia with 8, use the rest of the moves to take antarctica

I know The Impaller can't read this thread. But presumably he can see who's posting in it via the Dashboard. I'm just going to pretend like I'm participating in the strategy on the off chance he notices and it throws him off.

I say we go for #1. It will secure a bonus with little luck involved.

I'm not sure what you mean by archive, but they won't be deleted if that's what you're asking.

I mean like we could put the threads in some section so the Impaller and future players could easily look at this event.
