I don't play card games, but that's an interesting fact.

I think you're also missing the point- I don't bash players on forums for not being elite. I'm far from an elitist- CORP is an incredibly inclusionary clan and the vast majority of our players aren't able to play on the 1v1 ladder due to low levels.

Let me put it this way- I manually operate two leagues when I could automate them, just because automation would exclude players below L43. I spend time each day tracking and creating CORP Strategic League and CORP Challenge League (no relation to CORP beyond the fact that I maintain them in the name of Scorpio Dojo) games when I could instead have a script doing all the work for me (and not have to worry about a thing) just because doing so would exclude low-level players. My Open Tournament quota is full right now because I'm hosting tournaments I don't even participate in, just to help lower-level players level up and get better at 1v1 ladder settings so they can join the ladder.

In my perfect world, people wouldn't get bashed on for being noobish players. Newbies are great- they keep a game alive. Hell, at one point I wasn't even able to win a ladder game, so I'm sympathetic to newbies.

However, there are two types of bad player that bother me:

1. The trolls. The people who have no interest in getting better but simply like the "social aspect" of the game- the people who go around trying to disrupt clans, take Manager Rights, basically get a feeling of acceptance or power, usually through dirty things like harassing other players on forums. I think that these players ultimately hurt the community in their drive for power or their... weird breakdowns/rants/etc. They also say some very disturbing things and often talk extremely ignorantly while attacking others as ignorant.

2. The people who have no interest in getting better and then decry everything they can't win at. Like the guy who says Guiroma 1v1 is a bad template because he can't win on it, never acknowledging the fact that his combat strategy is utterly broken and costs him a bonus each turn starting from first encounter, sometimes more.

In other words, if you're here to play and get better at the game, I'm on your side. If you're here not for the game itself but for the "social" reasons, and constantly pounce at the opportunity to attack the legitimacy of strategic rankings because you yourself wouldn't be great but can at least hide your shittiness when you claim to be an "RPer," then, fuck you too, buddy.

I'm neither. I am simply a casual warlight player. I like going on the forums because it is an interesting environment. So what if i don't play the game seeking to be the best, i have fun playing diplomacy, or fun little custom scenarios or little games-within-games. This game isn't meant to be played in any single, set way. It's a feature that is glued to the game : having it your way.

When you say you're not an elitist and then bash people who don't play the game the way you do, it really makes you sound like an elitist.

Then it's my fault for mischaracterizing you and mentally categorizing you alongside Kapy/Juq and Tyrion Lannister. Looks like I mistook your attempt at humor as a personal attack (although the whole meth and Japanese flags thing tends to do it).

i have fun playing diplomacy, or fun little custom scenarios or little games-within-games.

As do I. However, there's also a class of players that disparages strategy to hide their shortcomings as strategic players, unfortunately. Plus diplo requires some basic strategy as well.

Okay. I just want to leave it here then. I think the beef is resolved.

And yes dude lol. The meth thing is what is commonly referred to in comedy as the "hook" or "bait". Then, saying you got addicted to Japan instead is the real joke, the"meat". It was also a really awesome setup for the lolicon punchline.

But yes i do not like Xy/TL etc. As far as playing the game goes.

I tried making strategic templates. I cri evritim lol

^ I don't make any. There's plenty to be found. There's 62 that I've tracked for use in CSL: http://tinyurl.com/csldata

How well you can beat someone at Warlight is one-hundred percent worthless outside of this website.

Learning how to beat someone in Warlight teaches you strategic thinking, some not that basic math and advanced planning. I'm pretty sure these skills are very valuable outside Warlight as well.

It's maybe also worth noting that there is a higher than expected number of computer scientists, mathematicians, statisticians, engineers, programmers here as well as a bunch of (under)grad students and high school students with a background in exact and applied science.

You have played tons, yes, but I speak of skill, not quantity.... you need to work on your ladder stats. By all means, do be offended. :)

Do you ever consider that the majority of players not only aren't on the ladder, but don't care to have to log on every day?

My boot rate is bad as it is (cause of my schedule) don't need it higher.

There's a difference between playing a lot of games and actually playing WL in the sense that you start improving and learning from better players who help you catch your rookie mistakes. Just saying that because about 3 months ago I thought I knew how to play WL and my low win rate was a "mistake" but it turned out that I just wasn't actually playing the game itself, at least not the way it should be played.

Wrong.
Many, many people don't necessarily care about improvement; they care about playing for fun.

Your definition of "actually playing WL" doesn't necessarily fit others.

Could I play a lot better, strategically, than I do? Yes, definitely.

But, honestly, the only time I take WL seriously is in the few coin games I've played with the 100 coins i received for free.

Entire agree with above statement.

Go to almost any massively multiplayer online game (mmog), and look for a while, and you will generally find the same thing.
