It's not so much about how it's now legal but how much everyone needs to rub it in. Yes we know gays can get married. But you don't have to go and tell everyone Gays are better than regular marriage now. And just because it is 2015 does not mean we have to appease minorities and accept everyone. Before this ruling I supporting Gay rights. After it I am against them.

I like this video, i like most of jaclyn's video. I don't see where she insulted anyone in the video. She is harsh to religious people, that's her thing and that's why people watch her videos, she debunk religious bullshit. She is an atheist activist and she is quite good at it.

The Supreme Court is not a legislature, it isn't their job to make new law or legalize anything. This job should of fallen to Congress.

No.

For one thing, the Constitution is very vague, and yet Supreme Court used the first section of the 14th Amendment to legalize gay marriage. That there is bullshit. The following is a quote from the 14th Amendment, which is the part of the Amendment of which Supreme Court used:

No state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any state deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law;

There were laws about gay marriage, Just like there were laws about black people and women not being able to vote I would say voting is a liberty here in the States. Because the Constitution is vague, and because there were laws stating otherwise, the 15th and 19th Amendments came into existence. They weren't able to use that 14th Amendment because there were laws in their way, and because the 14th Amendment is vague (and directed towards helping the slaves, and nobody else).

Gay marriage is no different. It should have its own amendment if the States (namely our glorious president and other democrats, in this particular case) wanted to abide by their own legal system.

There's a lot of different types of Atheists out there. I've noticed 2 that are most common.

Type 1: Doesn't believe in any gods/higher powers but doesn't care if other people choose to believe. Generally respectful of other viewpoints and is polite to you as long as you are polite to them.

Type 2: Attacks religion with religious fervor(ironic). Looks down on anyone who has any type of beliefs and will attack you like a rabid wolf the moment you say anything spiritual or religious. This type is often more obsessed with God and mentions him more than most Christians do.

Most of the Atheists I've met in real life are Type 1. Yet the internet is FILLED TO THE BRIM with Type 2. Is it just the internet's tendency to make usually nice people act like a jerks coming into play there?

arf i used to be suscribed to the amazing atheist but i unsubscribed because apart from when he talks about religions, he is unsufferable to me on every other topic.

And Kellen i don't know if you meant what you just wrote but just in case, i should point out to you that i don't need to believe Luke sky walker exist in the real world to talk about him or make/watch videos about him. God is just like every other fictional character, probably a bit more evil than most but still.

The basis of civilization is not agriculture. Archaeological evidence states that Gobleki Tepe in modern Turkey was built (a temple) 11,000 years ago, predating agriculture (by some estimates). It's not incorrect to think that organized worship would bring people together, and then they would concoct agriculture? It's highly likely that settlements came about before agriculture, being based on hunter gathering.

@Genghis: There are many arguments for the origin of stable settlements. Believe it or not, some argue that the discovery of fermentation of Wheat into beer caused Semi-Nomadic tribes to permanently settle so they could make more Beer. Religion was certainly an important factor in the stabalization of civilization, but it isn't the only one. I doubt there's really one thing that cause civilization to form, but that it was really a combination of factors.

On topic: Who cares whether gay people can get married or not? Does it affect your personal life? No. So why should you restrict other people's? If you don't like it, complain to your like-minded friends. But until gays start murdering babies, fuck off.

This is the single worst argument in favor of gay marriage. I hate this kind of logic, and you can see how stupid it is to think that way if you extend it to other matters. Children starving to death in Africa doesn't affect my personal life. Screw that continent I guess, not my business. Middle Eastern countries stoning/hanging people for things like adultery and homosexuality doesn't affect me, so why get mad about it?

Sorry, but I refuse to think that way. Just because something doesn't affect you personally doesn't mean you have to or should be silent on the matter.

I don't think marriage should be mentioned anywhere in legislation, however I certainly don't think discrimination against homosexual people is ok, just because it has something to do with religion. If you can't handle marrying people without discriminating, you should probably just do some other work instead. If a religion is discriminating against homosexual people, then the RELIGION is the problem. Get rid of it!

I'm getting fed up with all the people who think religions should be granted priviliges and put above other systems of ideas in legislation. Hopefully the world will move on from this utter nonsense some day.

Typical. Simply blame religion for all the world's problems. You're trying to label something as evil simply because of radicals doing bad things. Worse things have been done over money,political power,resources,etc.

As to be expected you focus on everything bad religions have done in the past while conveniently ignoring all the good things that have been. In older times religious monasteries and libraries would often be one of the only safeguards of ancient knowledge. In modern times religious groups are often the highest donors to charity groups and tend to perform a lot of public service around the world.

If you can't handle marrying people without discriminating, you should probably just do some other work instead. If a religion is discriminating against homosexual people, then the RELIGION is the problem. Get rid of it!

If you can prove to me that being gay is causing deaths (not non-births (IE. they aren't having babies cause they can't), deaths), then I'll admit that my reasoning doesn't work.

read the bible, read the kuran, those "holy books" are filled with messages of hatred and violence. I'm not saying it is all hatred and violence, but as Dawkins would put it, there is certainly a logical path that leads people of faith to commit violent acts. Faith is a powerful thing and it can turn otherwise good people into bad people (and vice versa depending on what verses of the book they uses)

And that faith is used by the "holy" leaders of the lands and religions to wage a "holy" war. The leaders are aware of what they really want. Just look at the Crusades. Only one or two of them were actually for religious purposes (taking back Jerusalem). The others were about political and economical power, and just flat out wanting more land. There was nothing religious about them.

It generally comes down to money and power (for the elites) and anger and dissatisfaction with the current situation (for the poor).

Death isn't the reasoning you used in your original post. You said, "It doesn't affect your personal life." I may of went off on a tangent, but I'm sick of seeing that used as a justification. Something doesn't have to affect your personal life for you to speak up about it.

I just said a TEMPLE PREDATES AGRICULTURE. Religion is clearly the (if not one of the) first step toward, if not the basis of, civilization. It is not like there is anything to get upset about. It makes SENSE. You are a man in your early 20s, confused about why the river runs, why lightning strikes, how it happens, who causes it, etc. It's EASY to say it : a Higher Being! Other people will come to the same conclusion, you agree to believe in a higher being! You wish to please this being so that you might be rewarded or spared from hardship, build a temple devoted unto them! You realize the temple is a nice place, stay there! Build around it, make a settlement! Then, mess around with flowers and barley, realize it's food, etc. !

You are too cynical about religion. I just gave a very good example of what religion can do:bring people together, motivate them with the idea that they are blessed by this religion, and drive them to perform at their greatest extent.

No, it isn't. But it is a perfectly valid excuse in this specific scenario, because it really doesn't affect anybody but the people getting married.
