US police: 1000 killings per year!: 6/17/2015 22:04:15

US police already killed more than 500 people this year, which means that US police kills more in days than other countries do in years. In almost every case the criminal offense hasnt been indicted, except the cases in which a video appeared, that prove the crime.
Isnt it terrifying, when the police is free to do what ever they want? what kind of society accepts such a corrupt system, where even the government denies police prosecution?

Have you heard of CUALED? Though I don't have the statistics, it's most likely more.

The police protect you, and of course you're going to have failures - so what to do, remove the police for isolated lapses in duty when the folk are doing the same thing, but much worse?

It's terrifying how high the crime rate is and how stupid people are. Are there bad cops? Yes. There are more trigger-happy policemen than anyone would like. But, I will say this: If you don't do shit, you won't get hit.

There's my two cents on this topic

In 2013, the Australian Institute of Criminology released a report detailing fatal police shootings between 1989 and 2011. In that period, police fatally shot 105 people. The victims were almost entirely male and 60% were between 20 and 39 years of age.

Of those persons shot by police, 42% were suffering a mental illness at the time of the shooting. Schizophrenia was the most common illness (59% of those with a mental illness) suffered.

105/22 years = 4.77 shootings a year.

By capita:

America: 316,500,500 / 1000 = 1 killing per 316,500 people

Australia: 23,130,000 / 4.77 = 1 killing per 4,819,056 people

Yes, but Australia is one of the best countries to live in - better than America. Not to mention as big as foreignborn population.

australia also has less people per foot... more crimes occur in high population density areas *metropolitan for example* than low population density areas...

http://la2b.org/2012/04/17/density-transportation-in-los-angeles/

"Often mischaracterized as sprawling and lower-density, Los Angeles as a whole has a population density of 12.64 persons per acre (over 8,000 per square mile), which makes the City one of the densest in the United States. By comparison, Chicago houses 18 inhabitants per acre, San Francisco 27, and famously dense New York City boasts 42 persons per acre. However, density in Los Angeles is not uniform across the City. Westlake (75 per/acre), Koreatown (67), East Hollywood (55) are a few of the densest neighborhoods in Los Angeles, while Pacific Palisades (2), Bel-Air (2.5), and Chatsworth (7 per/acre) are examples of neighborhoods with lower densities."

I don't know any major cities outside of sydney in australia..

If you want the complete opposite, just look to New Zealand. Their entire country's police force has no guns at all and 1 taser for the whole of their country.

This page is stupid,, you should not check the number of fatalities, need statistics.
You're in the third (right?) The population size in the world, you have 300 million people, what it 1000?
It does not mean that everyone who died is a harmless innocent

"Police officer Michael Brelo was previously accused [and acquitted] of killing Russell and Williams in 2012 after a long high-speed chase in which the pair was shot at 137 times by police. Russell's car backfired as he sped past Cleveland police headquarters, and authorities and bystanders mistook the car's sound for gunfire [both were unarmed].

After the vehicle came to a stop, prosecutors said, Brelo jumped on the hood of the car and fired 15 shots at Russell and Williams. The pair were each shot more than 20 times. It's still unclear why they initially fled." [Huff Post]

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/06/03/michael-brelo-charged-with-assault_n_7503998.html

is this what you mean by failures and isolated lapses in duty? By the way there are several more of those isolated lapses....

so what to do, remove the police for isolated lapses in duty when the folk are doing the same thing, but much worse?

first of all, nobody considered to remove the police, rather than accuse and condemn policemen for murder and other crimes. and second do you really expect the police to act like criminals, but maybe less worse? holy shit this is really fucked up!

The fact that 1000 killings a year seems outrageously high to some people is just ridiculous to me.

If 1000 people are going to be killed in a year by police, then there is a 0.0003% chance of any single person being killed, which is a chance I'll take to have policemen keeping my country safe.

In addition to this, for a cop to actually kill you, you have to do something seriously messed up around a cop. Chances are if you cooperate with police you will never be killed by one in your lifetime.

Sure, i'm all for police killing less people, but the fact that police kill 0.0000003% of the US population each year doesn't seem like that much of a problem to me, especially since the Unites States population is growing on average around 0.7% every year.

I'm not disagreeing that our police should make more of an effort to not kill people, but I don't think a criticism of The United States police is justified.
